I definitely forgot Jay-Z was rich and skeptical of religion, I'm glad he has reminded me.

that's probably it

i mad
If you weren't you'd be indifferent and just ignore the album altogether, or maybe just laugh it off and do/listen to something else. You probably posting pictures direct from his twitter account right now. It's typical Hov season though, old Nas stans hot under the collar as usual. My only regret is that there's no promo for this so I could see y'all slowly slide into despair over a couple months :heh

:umad

When was the last time Jay-Z did anything musically to make Nas stans jealous? He was the worst part of WTT, BP3 sucked, American Gangster was the definition of meh, and Kingdom Come... :heh

Seriously. Access Brnsn is such a bad rapper, in a purely objective sense.

He can't rap quickly because his heart is like if you were to put a pea into an expensive submarine, and sent it down to the deepest point in the ocean, the pressure on the expensive submarine is literally huge, and the pea stays fresh.

Bronsons heart is that pea, and he doesn't have an expensive submarine for it. Liquid Swords and Only Biult 4 will be the apex of rap. Ape ex have negative and racist connotations, and as a white dude, I can agley say that I've never experienced that sort of racism.

saw Lil B perform for an hour and forty-five minutes tonight.

it was pretty crazy

http://instagram.com/p/bKtiCyvYmC/#

the show was sold out, we rolled in 20 minutes after doors opened and the venue was half way full (which never happens here, most people mosey in right before the headliner) and we could hear them chanting for Lil B from outside the venue.  It was nuts.  He played everything and even surprised me by doing a bit of The Pack's "Vans" the first song i ever heard from him (I remember writing to them begging for a clean copy i could use in sets when I was DJing and they never responded).

he shouted out his cat and promised more music from her this year.

just got back from the NYC stop of the Souls of Mischief 93 til Infinity tour and it was fairly incredible.  Dudes had moves for a bunch of 40 year old rappers.  High energy and not taking any breaks.  Each song into the next for an hour straight.  If you like Souls, go see this tour.  It won't make you sad.

Spontaneous reaction: Way too much "don't really give a shit anymore" style rapping and no connecting style when it comes to the beats. So sick of the 808 snare as well.

Only remotely liked Somewhere in America and Heaven so far.

Sales of Kanye West’s unavoidable sixth solo album took a nosedive during its second week on the US charts, dropping by 80% – the largest second-week drop for any number one album since Madonna’s ill-advised MDNA trip.

Yeezus is now teetering on the number three spot, behind Wale’s The Gifted and J. Cole’s Born Sinner, which also took a hefty second-week sales hit, dropping 72% according to the Guardian.

The only other albums to suffer a worse fall in their second week – as measured by Nielsen Soundscan – were Mac Miller’s 2011 album Blue Slide Park, which dropped 83% to number 24, and Lady Gaga’s 2011 disappointment Born This Way, which plummeted 84%.

Makes sense. The album is quite a "fuck you" to those fans expecting/demanding an album full of Mercy; well it does have a lot of dancehall verses and choruses but that's about it.

personally I think it's great

Pitchfork has been on a roll lately: Magna Carta Holy Grail
http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/18247-jay-z-magna-carta-holy-grail/

MCHG features some of the most uninspired, pathetic name-dropping I've seen since The Game. Maybe Jay-Z is really into art, but his focus on the most well known and obvious pieces strikes me as a sign of fronting. Like a "book enthusiast" who name drops Dean Koontz and Dan Brown, but hasn't read much of anything else. I'm not comparing Da Vinci and Basquiat to The Da Vinci Code of course, just saying if those are the only artists you can discuss despite being a "big" art fan...I'm probably going to assume you have a very thin surface interest in art. The gaming equivalent would probably be a "huge" Final Fantasy fan who has only played VII.

I thought Jay was going to drop a personal album. He just had a daughter, how does that impact his view on women in hip hop or his past behavior. He's married to a icon and thus can barely take her anywhere for a truly intimate evening. But instead he pretty much dismisses all of that with casual throwaway lines here or there, which we're left to stitch together to form a portrait.

Ultimately this is the work of someone who has never truly been a great writer. Great writers can not only express themselves through music, they can paint pictures of others, walk in shoes that aren't their own, give us a glimpse of something we're not familiar with, etc. Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, etc have done that in their respected genres. In hip hop KRS-One, 2pac, and Nas (the "projects window" view) come to mind. Jay-Z still talks and acts like he's living in someone else's shadow, trying to impress the big man (Jaz-O, Biggie, etc) with jewelry he already owns.
