Like a light-skin slave boy: we in the houseee

All Day sounds like three songs sloppily mashed into one. IE a typical modern Kanye song. Too many cooks in the kitchen, for too long. Instead of just serving that steak medium rare, he went well past well done, spread A1 sauce all over the plate, threw a dash of sugar on top, gravy, and a couple Taco Bell sauce packets.

Nah, that's been his calling card for the last few years - fairly straightforward arrangement for 3:30 or so followed by a super self-indulgent outro/interlude - on a handful of tracks per album. The worst examples of Kanye over Kanying IMO is shit like HAM or the Don't Like remix - meaningless bombastic orchestral garbage crammed into space it doesn't fit to give shit a false sense of majesty/epicness. It seems like he's kinda moved passed trying to sound 'big' with that stuff into just making shit as bonkers as possible which is way more interesting to me

RE Can Ox shame on anyone who expected anything better. Dudes couldn't clear 6k to kickstart the shit, meanwhile El-P accidentally got 45k to make the same album a second time with fuckin cat sounds. The market has spoken

Though I really don't get how you could say that is typical of modern Kanye. Yeezus was as stripped down as anything he's ever done and the shit like Sanctified or IDFWU is pretty conventional for rap

Kanye should probably be banned from using synthesizers after that outro, god damn.

The song in general was disappointing after seeing dudes hype it up with the second coming of yeezus gifs. I'd be fine with not hearing it again unless it was live.

You can tell they really did take six days to make it. Overall I think it's dope but unfocused; not as good as So It Goes of course but has plenty of tracks I like. Arnold Palmer is my shit. Love the jazz shit they do. Isaiah Barr on sax

Kamasi Washington - 'Re Run Home'

Quote
The Epic is a 172-minute, three-volume set that includes a 32-piece orchestra, a 20-person choir, and 17 songs overlaid with a compositional score written by Washington. Pulsing underneath is an otherworldly ten-piece band, each member of which is individually regarded as among the best young musicians on the planet – including bassist Thundercat and his brother, drummer Ronald Bruner Jr., bassist (yes, there are two) Miles Mosley, drummer Tony Austin (of course there are two), keyboard player Brandon Coleman, pianist Cameron Graves, and trombonist Ryan Porter. Patrice Quinn’s ethereal vocals round out the ensemble.

My problem with the track is that the last verse is 10 times better than the previous ones. That's the type of beat you have to flow over effortlessly, Kurrupt style. He does it on the last verse but I fee like the entire track should sound like that.

The other problem is that it sounds unfinished to me. The transition to the chorus sounds awkward as does the pause-for-funk-pep talk part. Just the transitions back and forth.

Also sounds like it's tied to the previous track. And the track ends at the beginning of a skit. Overall Kendrick is a rapper most hurt by singles and leaks imo. Remember when Backseat Freestyle came out and people were like uhhh wtf? I get the same impression with this record.

that's the most disappointing thing about it. he just willingly took himself out of the game. diehard kendrick stans will have to come to terms with that.

i had low expectations going in but he still came in way under what i expected. i can't use a good 75% of this album.

Will review this tomorrow or later this week. This is one of the most ambitious albums I've heard in awhile, When it works it's stunning. At other times it feels like it suffers from studio isolation: overthinking shit, born from spending too much time trying to perfect things. That being said overall I think the album hits more than it misses.

The production is amazing, the concept is well executed. It builds up to quite a climax and nails it.

Man tho...I wish Kendrick knew a soul singer. There has to be a billion in LA, come on. Ann Wise is dope on These Walls but Institutionalize? Nah.

Definitely the kind of thing that makes you wonder if kendrick really thought that one out. Like he was in a studio with a white girl and let her sing that shit :dead

don't get me wrong, if she sounded like Clare Torry I wouldn't complain. But Anna isn't a soul singer, that shit just sounds weird as hell lol.
