- learn to use windows key + left, windows key + right, windows key + up, windows key + down, they rock
- get used to using the search box in the start menu and control panel, it's usually way better than fumbling around in the menus. it's worth learning the
query syntax as well. also, if you have any odd text file formats/extensions you have to search often (like code files etc.) set them all to use the text indexer in the indexing options right away to get it over with since it has to rebuild the entire index whenever you change this

- set taskbar to "combine when full"
- it's nice to be able to pin folders you're constantly opening to the Explorer jumplist instead of having to go to a shortcut on your desktop all the time. Saved Searches can also be handy, I keep one for all my Visual Studio .sln files under ~/dev
- I like having a "System" library consisting of my Windows and Program Files
directories so I can readily search them
- if you do a lot of stuff on the commandline/Powershell, you can Shift-rightclick on a file to get a context menu with a "Copy as path" option complete with quotation marks
