Reworked versions of God of War and God of War II, featuring smoother graphics running at a faster frame rate, hits stores this holiday on a single Blu-ray disc, Sony Computer Entertainment announced this morning.

God of War Collection will feature both Playstation 3 games running at 1280 by 720 resolution and 60 frames per a second. The collection, which will cost $40, will also include trophy support for the games.

"We are excited today to announce God of War Collection," said Scott Rohde, vice president, Worldwide Studios America. "Our fans spoke and we listened; thanks to our partnership with Bluepoint Games, fans and newcomers to the series can experience the epic God of War and God of War II saga in stunning 720p on PS3. This Blu-ray Disc compilation brings Kratos to PS3 even earlier than expected."

The collection comes just months before God of War III is scheduled to hit stores on March 2010 for the Playstation 3.

The idea of a Blu-ray collection of the two PS2 games, which sell used for about $35 total at Gamestop, first came to light in April when a survey leaked about the notion.

I don't think it's a matter of that it can't run in 1080p, just that Sony doesn't want to invest the time. Maybe they'd have to rework art assets?

If you have 1080p TV,you always see everything in 1080p ,the only question is what is the source native resolution.

Console X fans so starved for decent games they are chomping at the bit to buy slightly modified up-ports.

Sad how this sentence applies to 2/3 systems this gen.

Actualy, I'm a neurotic person who gets bothered by small things easily.  So I actually do anticipate rereleases with minor fixes and upgrades.  I just wish Nintendo did a pikmin 1+2 disc like metroid.

Its definitely not something I'd recommend. Its not so much a game as an "interactive software" like Electroplankton, but you have alot more control over the final performance and can record your effort.

Well, I think the original point was compilations are for lamers, and I disagree.  I'm enjoying my Prime 1 runthrough with pointer controls.  I'm sure many will value their high rez, smooth framerate GOWs.

And I'm not exactly wanting for games either, but I am losing interest tbh.

It's pretty lame that the PSP game isn't included, and if it doesn't eliminate the bad screen-tearing it would be weak, but otherwise it seems great.

Considering the framerate for the PS2 games is 60fps I don't like this pr higher framerate bullshit.  I mean I guess it could mean no screen tearing like the PS2 ones are plagued with, but I somehow doubt they'll eliminate the tearing as that would require real programming and not just emulation.

The games will probably be identical to PS2 versions running upscaled.

Really, it's just a collection of games being repackaged for the PS3.  $20 per game isn't bad.  I don't see why anyone played or owns these games already would care though.

The only thing I can think of is the possibility of an exclusive GoW III demo. It's not enough for me to buy it, but I'm also not your average blindly loyal PS3 owner.

The framerate is supposed to be 60fps, but is often not.

Why wouldn't tearing go away on faster hardware? Tearing is an artifact caused by frame drops.

Was GOW 1&2 even supposed to be 60 FPS?  It felt a lot closer to 30 FPS.  Compared to DMC or Gaiden, GOW definitely felt much slower.

Both games also had quite a lot of slowdowns so there actually is quite a lot to improve in the framerate area.

Yes, they are both supposed to be 60fps, but neither one maintains 60 frames with much consistency, with GOW2 being the worst offender.

It hardly maintains that.  Sure, you get 60 fps while running around the empty locales most of the time, but whenever the combat heats up, the framerate drops.  It is anything but stable.

The framerate in GOW2's last QTE sequence was almost as shit as Heavenly Sword's ending.

omg look at all the re-releases with God of War and....Riddick.  If you include Wii, DS and PSP as part of this gen, then there might be more of a case, but there isn't much for next gen games.  Hell, if you did that, the GBA would still be the biggest offender.  Thing didn't even have a proper new Mario game.

the GoW bundle is a good deal, especially if you don't own any of the older games.  Each game still goes for $20 greatest hits price, and basic math lets us know that $20 + $20 = $40, which is the price of this bundle.

I suspect back when Square talked about "remaking" FF7-9 for PS2, this is the sort of thing they probably had in mind.  Which would've been a good thing honestly, just removing the load times from FF9 would probably take it up a full point or two on my 0-10 scale.

I don't think re-releasing a game hinders a new project.

This is just an enhanced HD port. Not a remake. I don't think they've spent many months and lots of cash on it...
