I think it's GFWL, I guess you have to crack it or already have an offline profile available.

SEGA gonna SEGA I guess.

So, not worth the $2 then. I can just pirate it like normal instead of paying $2 to pirate it.

You can still login to GFWL. There was a scare a while back, but MS extended the EOL.

Right, but GfWL is shutting down eventually. It's not a secret that MS is killing it with the people that are putting in effort to port their stuff off the service.

Get wrekt, Steam phishers.

Wait, if all you need to do is put a $5 title on your account, what is stopping people from just putting a temporary credit card in on Steam, buying a title and then going back to doing the phishing?

You probably need a lot more than one account to phish successfully. Your point still stands, but this is the best they can do without making things inconvenient for new users.

So, starting today, Steam is now offering the ability for mod creators to charge for their mods. Skyrim's the first game to have them.

Hmm...not sure how I feel about this just yet, but I guess I wouldn't be too against it if it meant higher quality user-created mods on the Steam marketplace. Not gonna put down cash for dumb stuff like what 90%+ of them are, though.

Mods that used copyrighted material were already banned on Steam even before this, although I'm not sure how strictly that was enforced. With money involved, it could be a bigger issue, though.

As for as the developers/publishers of the games themselves, it's up to each one individually to decide if they want paid mods to be offered in the marketplaces for their games.

It's strangely engrossing when you get to the point where you're pondering whether you'll make more to dump all your money into say, the bank so it gives insane profits even though its time is so long or to wait it out a bit and spend more on boosting the movie studio to the next level to increase the cash flow. Edge of the seat seconds of decision making right there. Even if though there's no possible lose condition other than your time.

I think GO became the...go to...for the competitive scene didn't it?

That mode does play pretty well tbh compared to pubbing any of the standard CS modes. Gun game or whatever it is I still enjoy though.

Showing the first wrinkles already:
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/06/02/steam-refunds/

Quote
But after speaking with developers, we’ve learned that there is concern about the immediately obvious exploits the system offers.

Games that have opted not to use Steam’s DRM, which of course is usually perceived as a customer-friendly decision, can now be purchased, copied over into a different directory, and then a refund requested. With the new no-quibble policy, they’ll get their money back, and have a working copy of the game remaining on their hard drive. It is, essentially, the same shady antics that were possible when brick-n-shelving game stores would provide refunds on DRM-free boxed PC games. It was, in fact, a huge reason why boxed PC games had DRM.

It’s also worth noting that any trading cards dropped in the opening two hours of a game (which of course is prime dropping time) can, as well, be sold before the refund is issued. This means these new changes go so far as to provide customers with a way to profit from buying and refunding games.

Then there are the enormous problems this raises for developers whose games last under two hours. Dear Esther, Gone Home, heck, even the original Portal, are designed to have short running times. Once completed, there’s nothing (other than honour, I suppose) to stop a customer requesting a refund for a game they’ve completed.

Other more tricksy issues spring to mind. Organised mob use of Steam reviews are already commonplace, but require the users to have purchased and played the game. With the new system now in place, it will be simple for such organised groups to buy a game, review bomb it, then get refunds. And goodness knows how this will work with games set to offline mode.
All of these sound like fixable issues, but they also sound like stuff they should have thought of (and maybe talked to devs about).

That no-DRM one is really no big fuckin' deal. Oh noes, someone "legit"ly pirating! I seriously doubt that'll be a huge issue and if it does become a huge issue: Deny refunds on no-DRM games. Done.

Trading cards don't drop until after the 2 hour limit. Done, fixed loop hole.

Review bombed titles? Refunded titles have the review deleted/pulled. Done.

I just saved Valve millions of man hours in work. You're welcome, Gabe.

If you're cheap enough to buy a game, copy the files, and get a refund, you're cheap enough to pirate.
