Really fucking annoying PC game-launching problem

for a couple of weeks now whenever I try to launch a game on my desktop PC (Vista 64),  the game just minimizes and I can't bring the window back up - it just minimizes again every time I click on it, over and over.  I basically can't play any games on my desktop PC.

Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Found the problem - for anyone having the same issue, it's the Skype tray icon

Seriously though, why even bother with Windows Updates? I've been disabling that garbage since I upgraded to XP 7 years ago. I don't see the point unless it's for a service pack.
