Videogames suck. No matter how good the graphics get nowadays, the games are exactly the fucking same you fucking played on either the original Playstation or N64, or PS2, XBox, or GC.

ITS THE FUCKING SAME No, I don't give a shit if you have some new little gay gimmick when you can prss another buton you did in the past or the graphics look "omg awesome" because you can see an expression better. It's still the fucking same. The RPG's, FPS's, sports, adventure, driving, action games and every fucking thing else are the exact same mechanics you did 15, 10 years ago with a completely different game.

So, in conclusion. Stop whining about how bad the Wii is. Stop whining about the 360. Stop whining about PS3. And stop sucking the cock of every game of every system that is supposedly awesome. It's the exact fucking same as you already played. Shut the fuck up, and sit down.

Someone needs attention.  I'm not a big fan of the direction some games are heading in, but the advances being made are damn interesting.

I just wish developers would shy away from narratives and *+=STATS and get back to pick-up-and-play experiences.  My dream machine would be a waggle wand and an xbox live infrastructure.  Stupid Microsoft and their eyetoy bullshit.

Although, I think there is too much of an emphasis on "you fight bad guys" gameplay.  Its still fun, but Im gravitating to things like Animal Crossing, Sports games, and weird shit where you cut a potato's hair for stars because its a nice break from the mold.

I have to agree. At least when it comes to modern games. I keep going back to older games that I've never played and continue to find better game design, replay value and visuals in every game I pick up. I recently got Mega Man Anniversary Collection without ever having played a Mega Man game outside of MMX and Legends, and I was blown away. Although the difficulty is through the roof, I keep going back over and over getting a little bit further in each stage.

I recently got a copy of Full Throttle and I was floored. The puzzles are complex and require actual brain activity. Suffice to say I could feel the cobwebs slide off gears in my brain that I hadn't used in ages. The writing reminded me of a time where I'm not jamming every face button on a controller just to get to the fucking gameplay and away from the banal and sub-par excuses for writing that seem to be in every game now.

You don't even have to go that far back to find out how good games used to be. I borrowed Silent Hill 2 from a friend recently, having never played it, and I couldn't handle how atmospheric it is. Just being in the apartment complex near the beginning of the game was so claustrophobic and sickening I ran out of the building after a time to relax my mind, and going in again only ended in me turning off the console. I can't name many games that physically effect my well-being, and Silent Hill 2 was added to that list promptly after that day.

That's not to say that games now are complete shit, but I'm hard-pressed to just pick up and play a game for a current-gen console without losing interest moments after the game starts, chiefly due to what seems like an eternity of unskippable bad writing, poorly paced cutscenes about characters I don't give a damn about because I haven't even started playing as them yet. Games used to bring something beautiful out of me AND my friends. My imagination would run wildly with the ideas and themes that games would present to me in a way much more immersive than any book or movie could hope to administer.

I only hope that whichever direction the world of video games chooses to follow, the plague of gimmicks, generic storytelling and shallow gameplay doesn't tag along.

I think some of us don't have any good alternatives.  Some therefore place too much importance on the state of games.   I've tried socialising and reading up on the howto of conversation skills, but despite many efforts I wasn't making substantial progress.  Same thing happened with when I was trying to branch out to different hobbies.  Skip ahead a year or two and I'm just playing games to kill time because I can't think of anything I'd want to do otherwise.  I still think games are underappreciated, but I just wish it wasn't my only interest.
