I'm just curious about the single player stuff.  Whenever I try and see a video, it's always of the horde mode.  Right now I'm interested because it's Halo, and, like, I liked Halo games in the past.  Thinking about it, the only thing I find excited, so far, is that it's out this month  :-\

Great commercial.

It's troubling that they could reel in even reasonably aware consumers using an ad like this.

The cure? Watch some gameplay footage.

was under the impression this was ghost recon in the halo universe. Since I find the halo universe far more interesting than the GR settings, I figure I should dig it.

Bitter Sfags running serious damage control on another killer MS ad.

But it doesn't look like the game! They're not being 100% forthright with the product they're advertising!

Haha, morons. This is why MS sells millions of units and Sony doesn't.

That may be, but it still doesn't look anything like the game that it supposedly advertises. I don't blame them for it, it's a damned good looking ad and it obviously has the desired effect, but it's still some kind of dreamy dream version of the Halo thing. It's a bit like Bisley's take on Halo, really.

Yeah, it's fucking awesome, and it makes you want to go buy ODST and be this grizzled bad ass special ops future soldier dude. That's what ads do, they make you want to buy things.

By the way Simon Bisley is also awesome.

I'm not disagreeing with that, I'm just bitter about the ad being a hell of a lot cooler in style than this game, or any other Halo game ever, will be. It's common practice in advertising, but it still sucks. There will be blue, there will be purple, and it will glow. That's the Halo style, but then there is this other, cool style that they use for promos, and that sucks.

Where is the video you guys are seeing of the SP campaign that makes it look bad?  I just watched the trailers and they look fine.  I loved Halo 3 and it looks like it plays like Halo 3 with a squad and thus enemies take more damage to balance it.  My only concerns are:
1) lack of location variety since it all takes place at the city.  What makes Halo 1-3 nice is how you go through cities, jungles, libraries, arks, snow mountains, etc...
2) NO REGEN SHIELDS...fuuuuuck.  Shields saved my ass in Halo 1-3 at many checkpoints and are one of the gameplay aspects that I LOVE about the series and am glad they became a standard in the genre.  I like knowing that I can't screw myself by getting to an overwriting checkpoint with my life too low to pass it.  Little worried about no regen, especially because the games that have NOT done regen lately have instead given ridiculous amounts of health packs making the game too easy.

i've always had fun with the halo SP campaigns

for someone who just wants to play the mulitplayer this seems like a pretty good buy, with the MP and all the DLC on a standalone disc - Halo 3 plus all the DLC maps would add up to more than $60

I don't play Halo 3

I do very much enjoy Halo 1-3 SP.  Hell I will even play Halo Wars someday when it's $20 for the SP campaign.  I just really dig the Halo universe they've created and the games all have high production values and a certain level of quality to them.  They still have shitty graphics and sometimes shitty endings, but otherwise they're usually good.

Bungie pussied out in trying to make the ODST play all that different from Chief. You get 'stamina' instead of shields. It's like Halo 1.

No they aren't. 4 are free, 3 are reduced price, 3 are full price, and ODST comes with 3 new ones that are full price.

Halo 3 was already graphically outdated during its release. The game looked embarrassing for a next-gen flagship title...

I wonder how Halo: Reach will look. Going by the trend it'll look worse than ODST.

An expansion 2 years in the making, dude. I never had much of a problem with how Halo 3 looked (even if the arguments regarding trade-offs for scale seem a bit funny in hindsight), but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect more from a high profile title after 2 years and with complete console exclusivity.

Well, not as much as I used to. It sort of peaked with Halo 1 and First Strike and I believe Bungie's narrative team lost their way after that. I'll just say that graphics are not high on the list of concerns when playing a game.
