Apple Press Event thread of is Steve Jobs still alive
« on: September 08, 2009, 10:12:46 AM »
9/9/09 will not go to waste. Sega might be dead and who knows the status of Steve Jobs, but Apple trudges along. Tomorrow's press event is rumored to reveal new a new Nano and iPod Touch with built-in cameras.

Personally, I want a larger capacity Nano so I can replace my aging 30GB classic. It's around 80% full. Although even if Apple reveals a 32GB Nano (which would double the current largest-capacity Nano), I would still probably have it full within the next 1-2 years.

Do they ever have trade in deals?

I got the last Nano they put out, it was in the box since then until three weeks ago, turned it on and the battery was completely dead and wouldn't hold a charge.  But two reasons I can't get my money back are because it's years old and it was a gift.  If I could trade it in and get a newer one at a discount, I would.  Still, :piss shoddy apple products.

Some stores do, you can google iPod trade in and see. Depending on the condition of my iPod, I can get $40 at Best Buy. Not much.

All I want is an updated iTunes - 64 bit for Snow Leopard.  iTunes really hasn't failed me yet, despite with the problems people have with it.  The only beef I have with it is that it runs slower than most programs should in grid/Coverflow mode, and I always use grid mode.  It needs to be speedier.

To think I was actually on my way out to buy a new phone and a Ipod Touch in 20 minutes. I thought the whole rumour of a Touch Camera was a bunch of BS. Oh well phone today and Ipod after the announcement tomorrow.

I've never had problems with it either, except when I first got it and tried to manually manage all my folders and shit.  That's when it was frustrating.  Eventually, I just let go and it's been fine since. I find that the people with the most problems are the ones trying to manually manage everything.

I dunno if there'll be any difference with 64 bit itunes, but I wouldn't mind some substantial itunes updates (not sure what, but new shit is always fun to mess with.)

There was some news about Yoko Ono spoiling The Steve's big announcement that Apple and Apple kissing and making up. There was also a bit in there of interest:
Quote
Another interesting point from the FT article: Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison want to sell the Beatles catalog on iTunes, but EMI has objected because of concerns over piracy, of all things (according to McCartney, EMI is worried about being held liable if any tracks leak to the web). Of course, the only way to obtain digital versions of The Beatles catalog online at this point is through piracy.

I'd bet that the 8GB Nano and Touch models are going by the wayside. Probably the 120GB classic, too, assuming they have a larger capacity model to replace it.

I didn't realize they retailed for $399 before. That's a pretty significant drop. My guess is the camera model will come in at $299 at 32.

store is down right now, they were listed earlier

rumor - no new touch announced today, due to tech issues with the camera:

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/09/09/sources_reveal_apples_new_ipod_lineup_with_part_numbers.html

if it gets delayed, i'm guessing that when the store goes back up the prices for the current models will go back up, too

i knew i should have hopped on that 8GB refurb for $149 when i saw it

Also, apparently the rumor is the Classic is going to be phased out entirely.

:lol @ Zune

I guess it's doing worse now than it was 2 years ago - I remember it being neck and neck with SanDisk at one time.

It takes brass balls though to put the PSP and DS up there and act like people don't want those anymore. Gimme a break. Let's see a pie chart for that one btw

I barely remember Zune being on the market, to be honest. iPod's got the brand awareness, I guess Sandisk gets the budget-minded consumer.

Assuming Sandisk is a budget alternative, I have no clue.
