no camera on the touch is epic fail.

Edit: I wonder if that last minute change (rumor) of the camera due to parts failure is true and that it will debut later.

You can only touch twice on the itouch, right? So how are you going to have a twinstick shooter, and fire/jump/reload/open doors?

whoa @ 64gb, wtf @ no 16GB

i'm not paying their $300 processor upgrade ransom

it's up to ZuneHD now to show these fucks how games are done

16GB, OLED Screen, multitouch, kickass Tegra processor, 720p output, for $229 - zune wins on specs

I didn't think so either. But twice now I've taken the wife's touch to an event (PAX) and it would have been sweet to take pictures, no matter the quality. I like the iTouch/iphones apps. Somebody had one for PAX and it was incredibly useful having it with me. Like to get one for myself. But only was interested if it had a camera. If there is no physical change other then space. I would rather get a 2G touch for much cheaper.

The nano is getting everything the touch was supposed to get? lame.

Well, the word was they were having production problems with the Touch camera. So it will probably come at a later date.

Hopefully it true as it's total fail on the touch right now with the price and features vs the Nano.

i think they just delayed it until next year to have something for the 2010 event - honestly, there's not much more they can add to the touch beyond a camera and mic, so they probably want to space out those kinds of upgrades

I just don't think they subscribe to the "talk about it today, release it some time in the future" philosophy. In most instances, Apple doesn't talk about things until they're available, when at all possible. They're not going to tell you about it until it's there waiting for you.

I certianly agree that they are the king of here is our new model and it's available today. I just approach rumors with a large amount of salt and hope that this is the reason for no camera on the itouch , rather then apple being clueless.

Once the 16/32 comes with a camera I'll head down to costco. Cheaper then retail by a few bucks and 2% cash back it's a not a bad deal.

I've wanted a Nano, but wanted at least 32 GB. The fact that they're staying at 16 does nothing for me. My library is bigger than that, and I'm not sure I want to enter into active library management. That's, like, 7 seconds I'd rather not spend whenever I acquire new music.

Putting it like that makes me sound incredibly lazy.

i'd be so fucking pissed if i dropped $200 on one of these only to see them release an upgrade with camera and processor boost a few months later

still can't get over them not boosting the specs in the 8GB to bring it inline with everything else, that's like splitting the userbase on purpose

yeah, fuck em, i'll see what the zuneHD has to offer in the way of apps and games - if nothing comes out of that, i'll just get over my fascination with PMP devices

As someone else said. It's possible that was coming with the camera model that got "delayed". It's also possible they are milking the money from it. after all 40% of the iphone market is itouch.

i'm not going to spend $300 on one without a full feature set even if the storage space is doubled, and i don't have the money to keep upgrading if i pop for the $200 one and all that stuff comes later, so they basically left me without a purchase option

Nano can't take pictures. Just shitty video.
iPod Touch still lacks a camera and is way too fucking expensive.
iPod Classic bumped to 160GB is an insult, because the last update WAS at 80/GB160GB before they 'merged' into a 120GB model, so they just needed a reason to re-sell it to you to add Genius.
And I can't get Home Sharing to fucking work on my computer.
iTunes got rid of the shopping cart, so everything is just as dangerous as it was on Amazon's Mp3s store, where a single click could equal a big fuck up.

Not happy.

I had the same reticence with moving from a 60GB iPod 5G to the 32GB iPod Touch I'm using now. Instead of keeping my whole library, I find there are a couple artists that I really want at any time; I make a Smart Playlist for them (you can use "artist name" or even "play count"), and another Smart Playlist for anything I've recently added ("date added is within last 8 weeks"), and have it sync all desired playlists.

Based on how much room I had left over, I made a playlist selected entirely at random but limited to the remaining size. I've since switched this up to only select things which haven't played in the last week. This way I get a full iPod which has most of the songs I want, as well as a good selection of stuff that's fresh.

I'm running out of space on my 32gb phone...only 4gb left.  I don't buy music as much as I used to, but I like to keep everything.  Just never know when you want to listen to some stuff you liked years ago!

Do you guys listen to music by playlist or album?  I'm still all about albums, or I browse for an artist then pick out a song.  From what I understand, kids basically listen to playlists of songs they like these days, which I find weird.

I'm still considering it. I currently have two iPods: a 30GB video iPod that is my workhorse in the car and at work, and a 1GB shuffle (previous model) that I take to the gym. The regular iPod's battery life is diminishing. It barely makes it 6 hours now (at work, so no additional attachments to draw power from it), and is prone to fooling itself into thinking it has no battery power even when it's > 50% charged. I have to hook it up to a charger, even for just a few seconds, to get it to function again.

While it's true that I'd never listen to my entire library, I like having it all readily available so if I'm in the mood to listen to that album I haven't played since 2006, I can. I don't know... I toyed with the idea a few months ago so much that I put together an all-encompassing playlist that would fit under 16GB, and I just couldn't do it. I guess I'd just to have to filter more. Then to think I'd have to keep the thing updated whenever new music was added...

I may give it another try on the playlist side. Still, I don't care for a video camera or an FM tuner. I wanted capacity. A 32GB Nano at $199 would have been in the shopping cart in a heartbeat. :-\

Both for me. I have several playlists that are usually genre-specific (or at least blending similar genres) that will pull in 1 or many songs from individual artists or albums that I prefer. But I'll also listen to full albums, such as yesterday's Massive Attack day at work. I even have playlists that just have several full albums included so I can listen to them back to back.

Really liking iTunes 9 so far, if only for the interface boost.

Thinking about getting an iPod nano and some new shoes for the Nike+ / pedometer stuff, it looks bitchin.

I don't see how you wouldn't use playlists. Put together your own blend of music to suit whatever needs you have. I was doing it with casette tapes. I was doing it with CD-Rs. Of course I'm going to keep on with a digital library.

huh? I thought it already supported it. There's an option for it in the iPhone's "settings" menu that you need to turn on first:

(Image removed from quote.)

after you turn it on a new icon will appear on your spring board:

(Image removed from quote.)

I don't have any shoes that supports it but I'm pretty sure this is pretty much it

It's only supported on the GS.

The new sync options in 9 are great.

On my 120g Classic I just sync my whole library.

For my 8g iPhone I now just select the genre from the library I want and go.

I have a feeling I'd get super specific about what I'd want to put on there (i.e. the best of the best of the best) and end up forgetting about 3/4s of every artist's music. I'd rather improvise my playlists and throw a few albums together on shuffle than digging through my library trying to make the perfect mix. Maybe I'm just lazy

takes me forever to come up with my own playlists.  I made mix tapes when I was younger because I'd get songs off the radio (when tapes were $10-15 and CDs were $25+.)

I've got a hip-hop playlist that I shuffle through, a rock one, a dubstep one, drum n' bass... then there's a playlist for when I just want to relax.

There's a "get busy" playlist  :tauntaun

A playlist of songs I like to listen to in the morning to get pumped. A playlist of songs I know my fellow lab workers won't hate. It goes on and on.

The way I do it is like this.

For a given type of music, I have a huge playlist of the best handful of songs on each album. Could be just one or two songs, could potentially be an entire album (rare). From there, I'll periodically make a more selective list of perhaps the best song for each performer or the one that best fits the present mood. So I'll have two lists, one that has it all, one that has the best. If I'm in the mood for the best, it's there. If I want the fuller experience, it's also there. I sometimes make intermediate lists, too, so I might include 2 or 3 for a given performer so it meets in the middle.

I have playlists for everything. 80s music. 90s music. Wayback Wednesday (redundant with 80/90s). Throwback Thursday (redundant with 80/90s, but not with Wayback Wednesday). "Electronica" (Full, Middle, Short, and even a subset for more downtempo). Jazz. Vocal Jazz. Rock. Even gaming. I'll put together playlists of favorite songs of given artists, so if they stretch for 3 or 4 or more albums, I'll have my own selection of greatest hits on standby. I have a playlist called "That's Un-American :smug" that simply has a collection of foreign-language tracks. I'll use on-the-go to mix various playlists together on the fly at work so if I want 80s pop to interlope with classic Sinatra, I can do that, too.

That's pretty awesome. You've inspired me to make day-specific playlists! :rock

Yeah, I'm definitely too lazy for all that :lol I don't even want to think about how often you have to go back and tack on songs from new releases.

The Genius feature for iTunes actually sounds pretty awesome, but iTunes on Windows is soooooo sloooooow that I'm hesitant to reinstall it just for that. foobar has spoiled me

The one I never made but should have was "Twofer Tuesday." Back-to-back songs from each artist.

I'm basically a lame radio DJ wannabe, I guess.
