Question regarding memory

So my friend's computer has DDR SD memory, 333mhz. Can I put 1gb DDR 400mhz memory along there with it?

Yes, it will work fine. RAM doesn't so much run at certain speeds as is capable of running at certain speeds. DDR1 RAM (which, btw, is literally ancient in terms of PC hardware) rated at 400mhz will run happily at 333, 266, or even 200 if asked.

Yeah, I know it's ancient, my buddy just asked to clean his pc (back up, format it), install the necessary apps and have it run as smooth as possible.

I have 2 x 256 MB and 2 x 512 MB DDR400, do you need it?

My friend asked to check with him first before buying anything. How much do you ask?
