I picked up Batman: Arkham Asylum the other day, and while a it is a nice looking game, it is nothing special. We have seen this before 100x just with batmans name slapped on to it.

Now this goes on and sell 2 million copies, rave reviews and hailed as the next messiah

It is definitely influenced over the Dark Knight crazy, and sells extra copies because of that. Batman is so damn overrated. I dont understand why people go OMGWTFUGH crazy over him.

People like Batman, and people like good games. It's a good Batman game. That makes it quite unique, and desirable. You're just mad because there are no real cities in your country.

after being ignorant towards batman, i started reading some of the higher regarded comics. now i gotta say that batman is a pretty great character. much better than all the other mainstream superheroes

Keep playing? It gets more interesting when you get to the hub.

I mean it's not zomg the best game ever, but it's a very enjoyable game. I don't think it has "that" much to do with batman. If this was a ninja turtle game or terminator game and was the best licensed game in the last decade people would still be making a big deal out of it.

And yeah, Batman is popular in the US. People like the tough silent guy schtick.

The OP answers his own question in the first post by labeling himself as a Batman hater. I don't know the guy, but let me guess, he made a post about how Dark Knight was popular only because Heath Ledger died? or it could just be that he hates things that are popular. Don't judge this based on the recent movies. I actually liked the story but I am a batman fan. gameplay gets really good when you really get in the zone with the platforming, combat, and the riddle hunting.

At the least, it's one of the "great" licensed games that only come like once or twice a generation (Goldeneye, Riddick, etc).

There's a lot of confusion as to what exactly is holding up the release of the 60's series. There's theories that range from DC Comics not wanting to bring back campy Batman to rights being spread across several different companies to problems with some of the celebrity cameos.

The whole thing is just a huge mess.
