There was a huge Scribblenauts thread at GAF that some of the creators read and posted in. Apparently, they got a lot of ideas [read: memes] from the thread that were eventually incorporated. No one that doesn't know about GAF will ever see it, though, so I don't really see this is as being a big deal.

Been playing this for an hour. It's definitely fun, but it was waaaay overhyped on GAF. I guess it could get better once the puzzles are easy.

Drawn to Life was pretty meh, but this is pretty fun I have to say. The later levels are much more interesting.

I'm not even super-hyped for Scribblenauts, but you can't call a game simplistic when you only play through the fucking tutorial. That's like watching a trailer for a film and judging the whole film based on only that, which unfortunately happens all the time.

It's not a verdict. I said "I dunno," because well, I don't know yet. :P Frankly, the tutorial was so boring I didn't really want to go any further. It's also several levels long, by the way.

You also don't even have to jump into the game if you just want to mess around and see what you can conjure up...it lets you do this right on the title screen.

Yeah I loved M&L1&2. The most ingenious (meaning fresh) RPGs on the GBA/ DS.

I loved #1, but got really bored midway through #2 and shelved it. I held off on #3 for the US release cause the Japanese version of the mario rpg games have NO HUMOR; it's 90% added in the translation and thus the US ones are far superior. I'm looking forward to playing #3. Maybe I'll even give #2 another shot someday......

The last boss had like a million HP or something. It took me about an hour to beat and I was never in fear of actually dying.

Never played any of the Mario and Luigi games... nor any of the Paper Mario games apart from Super... any good? I've always worried they would be FAR too easy for a leet RPG player like me

I like all the Mario RPG games except Super Paper Mario, which was incredibly boring despite the cool premise. They are easy, but I don't think it's really a bad thing. It's nice that leveling up makes your attacks go up by one instead of several hundreds and thousands. Most other JRPG give you life bars with hundreds or thousands of hp, attacks that can deal out the same, and it's all superfluous. It's nice to have a life bar that's only two digits long. They also have a lot more action elements compared to other turn based games, both in battle and in the overworld. I haven't read up on the third game at all (story, mechanic wise) and I'm picking it up this week.

More and more I'm considering just trying out scribblenauts from the downloaded version and passing the full game. Post more impressions so I can see if it actually holds up after an hour. Their last two games were neat ideas (not as neat as scribblenauts) but were really boring games.

That's kind of strange if all you wanted out of the game was to find out how much random shit you can spawn. The idea of solving puzzles entirely with your imagination is awesome to me, and I assume the more mind-bending puzzles don't pop up until the end of the game where creativity plays a much bigger part. To me, Scribblenauts is like this year's Portal, except a lot less linear.

The puzzle levels suuuuuuck. I've played all of them from the first two worlds, and a few from the last world, and almost every one of them amount to "Give ____ an object they'd use."

It's an interesting concept, but they've applied it like they're teaching preschoolers. There was one that looked really tough. "Get these bad guys to heaven." and the first time I did it all crazy like, air lifting them with a helicopter, sneaking them by the angel guard and everything, but then i later figured out that if you give them holy water or a cross or something else like that they just float up and you win.

You can try the Action modes two. Theres a lot of levels in the game. Advanced Mode as well, which requires you play the level 3 times in a row, but you have to do a different solution each time - can't retype what you already used.

That was one of the "better" ones. Most of the others were literally things like "Give the dentist things he'd use."

Action stages are a lot better, and the game is still wicked overall. Simple, yes, but strangely addictive.

I'm surprised at how deft some of your solutions can be (The Cross/Holywater thing mentioned abive is cool) and how fun some of the levels are, but the "CHallenge" stuff sucks. "SOlve a Level 3 times!". Well, okay. Once I use a Jeep, next I use a sportscar, then I use a UFO. Am I done yet?

Also, rampant abuse of the word: 'Jetpack'. I also wish you could preview the item you'll spawn. "Glass Case" spawns a Brief Case, and then you're down a Par.

Anyway= Sometimes this feels like an alarmingly brilliant little puzzle game, sometimes it feels like a tech demo. I wish there was more incentive to be creative.

Sort of. That's what I mean- Do I hook up a dragon to a helicopter and fly it around? Well, that's 3 objects. 'Rocket Launcher' probably does the same thing. On the other hand, there are several levels where a low-par is a major challenge and forces you to think creatively.

This game is neat so far.

Controls are really bad and sometimes it feels like the game has everything except the thing you're thinking of, but that's fine. I did all the puzzle levels and upto 1.7 for the action stages in the first world, and I assume it gets more complicated eventually.

So I got this game. Pretty solid, played through the first 4 stages like non-stop on puzzle mode, going through them in action mode. It's a good game but the controls are so terribly broken it's like I'm playing a free internet flash game, except I paid 36 dollars for it. I unfortunately find myself using the same items over and over again, not because I'm lazy, but the puzzles aren't as engaging as 5th Cell made them out to be. Most of the hints are so vague, they should have presented specific objectives instead of putting you in a room and just blurt out some random clue. Maybe I'm not smart enough for this game.

Either way, it's a really novel game, but the controls are so frustrating sometimes. Borderline game-breaking.

I keep coming back to this game for some reason, despite the list of problems I have with it.

- The levels are repetitive and dull
- The game should inspire creativity, but the levels are so simplistic that you have to force yourself to solve things creatively
- The controls are awful
- The camera does this stupid snap back
- The level editor is pretty disappointing

Yet every once in a while I feel the need to pull it back out and see if certain words I thought of work. I keep thinking I've played the last of it, but I always come back to it. It's weird.
