So, I sold my truck a while ago and have come into $500. Now that I have this money I'm having a hard time deciding what I should spend it on. The reason this is in the Gaming Forum is because every thing I'm considering getting is a video game system, since I no longer have one and there isn't much else I'm keen to purchase. Here's what I'm considering:

Playstation 3
+ A handful of games I really want to play (Uncharted 2, Brutal Legend, Bayonetta, PS1 legacy, LP2)
+ Awesome Blu-Ray and DVD player
+ I'd be getting a nice 24" monitor to use with it

- I had one once already, not really hot shit
- I've heard bad things about the newest firmware
- Games are expensive

Wii (only if price drop rumor is accurate)
+ VC and WiiWare are shaping up to be amazing
+ Cheapest console (games and hardware)

- I'm not sure what kind of display to get because of SD gaming
- A friend I may be moving in with later next year has one
- I played the few games I was interested in on my friend's, and the control scheme is maddening (excluding VC/WiiWare)

A new budget gaming PC
+ Free games
+ Can do other things than play games
+ Superior control scheme

- Costly, my rig after shipping would be $470
- The internet would continue to distract me from clearing out my backlog

I had a 360 and, not to start a console war, it was the worst thing I'd ever spent money on. So many hardware headaches, hours with customer support retrieving gamertags and configuring internet, I'm never doing that again. I didn't know what buyer's remorse meant until I bought a 360.

Epic Mickey (I'm interested in the concept so far)

Those are the ones that come to mind right away. And I don't care if the 360 came with a little sex hole in the side, none of the exclusives interest me and I still have a bad taste in my mouth from owning one before.

I don't know how you can hate the 360 so much, it is probably my most played console ever. 360 has the best library by far and there is actually a community on Live, but the PS3 is a good machine too. Just don't expect the best gaming machiner

Doesn't seem like enough games to really make it worthwhile.  Mega Man 9 is also on PS3.  Super Mario Galaxy 2 isn't out yet (not this year, I don't think), Sin & Punishment 2 also isn't out yet, so that leaves an N64 game and Mega Man 9.  Epic Mickey is way too far away.

Just wait, get the PS3, or get a new PC.

I know MM9 is multiplatform, but I love the control scheme for the Wii version and IIRC the Wii was MM9's primary console. I also have a feeling that if the $50 price drop happens, Nintendo isn't going to drop the price again for eons, and it was the price I initially wanted for the Wii. And that list of games is small, but I didn't list the ass-ton of NES and SNES games I'd get on VC (I know I could get them on PC, but again, control scheme, and I wouldn't be distracted by the internet).

I played my PS3 a lot when I had it and traded it for a 360 because of how short the games I'd played were, and my lack of interest in upcoming games. I'd put some mileage on that BluRay player if I got it though, so that's a big selling point.

I'd love to get a gaming PC, but I know myself and it's tough to dig through a PC gaming backlog because I get distracted by message boards/facebook/msn and AIM friends/porn/etc. I'd love to get back into WoW though, had my life down to a science with that game, not even porn tore me away from that monster.

that is impressive. No game is that compelling to me. If they were somehow able to combine amateur porn and videogames in a tasteful way, I wouldn't have a life

Haha, yeah, WoW was more or less gaming nirvana for me. The only vices being constant updates, servers being down at least once a week, pay to play, and the fact that it's impossible to raid/instance now. But I dealt with it. Played that shit non-stop for eight months before letting go.

It also seems like you're not particularly crazy about either the WII or PS3.  It's probably best to keep your money and wait for something that you really want, like maybe the Zune HD or a new TV.

Actually, the Wii really isn't all that bad of a choice. If you haven't had one until now, there's quite a bit of stuff in the backlog that could take a while to finish, and by then, newer stuff will be out. There's also the VC. If HD gaming really isn't your concern and you don't REALLY want a blu-ray player, go with the Wii. It's enjoyable enough. Don't get a PS3 til next year. Gran Turismo, etc.

Hey guys, update on this thread, after seeing some games and stuff from TGS and reading EB and things, I'm considering getting an Xbox 360.

Talk me in/out of this decision. What SKU should I get? Here are some things to consider:

Pros
+Practically everyone on EB has one, as do most my friends
+Most games that I'd be getting are dirt cheap now, I could also borrow some from my friends
+Lots of good software coming out next year

Cons
+Pay to play online gaming
+I remember trying to connect my 360 to a computer monitor and had to break the plastic housing off of the A/V cable to fit it under the HDMI cable.
+Annoying internet setup (most of it was gamertag issues, I'm going to abandon my old one and make a new one)

That's about all I can summon off the top of my head. Is it worth it to Jump In again or should I just hold on to my money? My backup has now become just getting a budget computer because I'm very excited to see if the wishlist I put together can actually become a good gaming computer, but at the same time I miss playing good games and I'm trying to find a system that has all of them.

get an arcade unit (look out for the new designed boxes for the latest version) + ms vga cable so you can play it with your pc monitor or get an elite for the 120gig (download games, install) + ms vga cable or any hdmi cable of your choice.

and i believe you can create a gamertag on xbox.com if you were having difficulties doing so on 360.
