Is NG Sigma any good?
« on: September 14, 2009, 10:33:05 PM »
I saw NG Sigma 2 is coming out soon and I thought "oh, I can't wait to pick that up when it hits bargain bin" since I'm curious if they've made NG2 a better game.  This got me thinking that I thought the same thing when Sigma 1 came out, so I looked around now and saw that Sigma 1 is getting pretty bargain bin cheap these days at $10-20.

How is the game if you've played through the original and NG2?  Does the gameplay/levels still hold up even after the upgraded gameplay of NG2?  Is the added stuff (graphics, racheal, weapons, are-there-new-bosses?) nice?  I bought NG:B back in the day but never finished it, just did a few levels to check out the new weapon.  I am kinda in an action game mood and with Bayonetta US not out until Jan....hmmmmmm, what's the consensus?

They made it a lot more of an action game compared to the vanilla NG or Black.  The Rachael segments are not too fun.  Graphics are better but at times can seem inconsistent.

If you played Black, you don't really need Sigma.  It's still fun, though.

the gameplay of the original is better than the sequel

I recently ordered a "Like New" used copy of NG Sigma from amazon marketplace.  I played the original xbox, never played Black.  Original is one of my favorite action games ever.  Feeling nostalgic, I thought I'd like Sigma.  Game arrived and the "Like New" game has fucking protecting labels from the old rental store it came from.  The game works fine though.  I played up through the second boss (horseback guy).  Decided I don't think I'll ever actually play through the whole game again.  Plus I'm so pissed that someone would sell me some old rental disc with non removable labels "Like New."  I emailed the seller who claims he never noticed any labels.  Meh.  I'm sending it back.  He'll either refund my money or Amazon will make him.  They're pretty good about enforcing stuff like that.  I don't think I'm going to order another copy.
Don't know if I want to pick up Sigma 2 or not.

I'm not sure about the extra content since I didn't play through Sigma entirely.

I can tell you that the new graphics are a mixed bag.  There are some extra touches here and there but it's mostly what you'd expect if the original NG was being rendered in HD.  Also, there are slowdowns and screen tearing which were not present in the Xbox version.

I never played through the original, and while I have yet to finish Sigma, I think it's just fine.  (Haven't played a Rachel level yet though!)  The general consensus when the game came out was that if you already played through the original and/or Black, there's really no point in bothering with Sigma.

Sigma 2 looks like it's gonna have a shitload of extra stuff added to it over the original.  I never played NG2 either, so I'm pretty pumped for it.  Hope the co-op is good.

I hope they adjusted the last level of NG2, at least in easy mode, so that more power-ups can be obtained.  I got stuck on the last boss because I had 1 lousy healing poling.

Sigma added a weapon (the dual katanas), the ability to shoot the bow in the air, charging up ninpo, toned down the difficulty a bit, and Rachel missions.  Also added screen tearing, some slowdown, and in-battle load times.

Sigma 2 looks to be much better, but then again, it doesn't have as high of a bar to reach...
