And I've played some really bad ones before! IU is like a kaleidoscope of poor design choices that just don't make any sense no matter how you look them and other things are just "lol japan" or "lol animu".

Let's see, we've got:

-The most milquetoast main character ever paired with a really bossy female character [wonderful combination there]
-Getting chased by an invincible ogre TWICE
-Running for about fifteen minutes through a pitch dark forest full of enemies
-Camera and targeting suck big time
-VA is terribad

I feel ripped off and I paid $10 for a sealed copy. $:-\$

Speaking of 3rd rate J-RPGS, how's Last Remnant? I picked up the PC versio for $20 at Fry's but I haven't opened it yet.

I paid $80 for it and I got through the forest and never touched it again.

And I liked the game! It just didn't scream "play me now" so it got backlogged.

I finished it once, it's on my to-do list for 1000. It's not bad, either. Eternal Sonata is the worst you can do. Maybe you would like that, it has little loli girls and boys.

I can. Imagine Eternal Sonata but with more distant save points and ridiculously high difficulty so you die all the time and long load times.
That's not IU, I just wanted to imagine how to make a worse rpg than ES.

Don't forget to reduce the amount of enemy types in the game. Instead of 4, cut it to 2. Just ostriches and turnips palette swapped to infinity.

Star Ocean 2 and Valkyrie Profile were also Tri-Ace games and those two rocked.

By the way, SO2 was almost completely ruined by Tri-Ace in retrospect when they released the PSP version and kicked out the awesome Star Trek-esque CG opening and popped in some animu trash with J-pop playing in the background. I almost ripped my PSP in half when I saw that travesty.

Sega Saturn + Atus + RPG = Golden Goodness

In the case of Virtual Hydlide though, I got, well, the Youtube video makes it quite clear what I got.

except that SMB1's graphics and gameplay are good and hold up to this day, whereas you can practically see the input lag that would come with that sub-20fps rate in virtual hydlide

I think that was the second worst video I've seen of a game (top slot goes to Trespasser, of course)

IIRC, Atlus didn't make Virtual Hydlide. It was Sega; Atlus USA just localized it.

IIRC, Atlus didn't make Virtual Hydlide. It was Sega; Atlus USA just localized it.

I didn't realize that at the time, though I found it out later. And usually though, Sega + RPG is a pretty good combination as well.
