What SNES games should I have at
« on: September 23, 2009, 01:50:23 AM »
We had an NES thread, now here's one for the 16bitter. The 360 is still fucked and there's no actual games for the Wii but I can at least make use of it to emulate Nintendo's old awesome machines.

for some reason I read this as a SNES music thread, so I suggest Top Gear.  It's a good game too.

At the risk of getting trolled, I'm not a huge fan of the SNES, but here are some personal favorites:

Earthbound
Super Mario World
Ninja Gaiden Trilogy
Mega Man X and X3
Final Fantasy III
Super Metroid
Super Mario All-Stars
Boogerman
Captain Commando
Final Fight (Any of 'em)
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Earthworm Jim 1 and 2
F-Zero
Kirby Super Star

In no particular order: Final Fantasy IV-VI, Super Mario World, Super Mario RPG, Super Metroid, Super Punch-Out!!, NBA Jam, Donkey Kong Country, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Terranigma, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Breath of Fire I & II, F-Zero, Super Castlevania IV, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario All-Stars, Kirby Super Star, Contra III, Mega Man X, Street Fighter II: Turbo, Gradius III, Earthworm Jim, Arkanoid

I'm probably forgetting some good stuff

edit: Oh yeah, Earthbound. Dunno how well it has aged, though.

Also, if you haven't ever played Starfox you might as well check it out, but it's pretty much unplayable these days

Never cared for much else on SNES although Allstars is great because of SMB 1 and 3.

Soulblazer, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Lufia & The Fortress of Doom, Axelay...

I don't think I'd still be gaming if I had a Genesis instead of an SNES. I imagine how much better off I'd be.  :-\

Oh, I know. I eventually got most of them, later in the system's life. My neighbor had a Genesis, so I could actually play many of the good games, but the only ones I was really jealous about were (IIRC) Phantasy Star 2, Rocket Knight, Gunstar Heroes, Aladdin and Strider. And I guess Sonic. I didn't even hear about lots of hidden good stuff until much later.

Maybe it's selective memory, but I remember droughts of nothing but my neighbor bitching about all the stuff coming out on SNES. Then there was the SegaCD deal, and everyone with an SNES was totally jealous (even though we knew we'd get one later! right?). Then it failed hard and the five good games for it were nearly impossible to find (around here anyway). And then there was the 32X.  :lol

I never really got on board with Sega until the Saturn.

For fan-translated SNES games, I'm gonna have to say Live A Live - it's got some very interesting and innovative scenarios as far as RPGs go, even though at times it feels a bit unpolished.

I remember Ethelred (who has pretty damn good taste in RPGs) giving lots of praise to Rudra's Treasure, though I haven't played it myself. Gonna give it a try one of these days.

demi's got a sweet collection, but don't play NHL Stanley Cup.  You will actually die.

Props on having Plok, though.

No way, NHL Stanley Cup is awesome. I would also add Super Soccer, love that game too. NOBODY in this thread would mention Plok, because my taste is ASTRONOMICALLY above theirs. Look at the rest of the posts in this thread. Crap, obvious, crap. Do you guys even try any SNES games when you were a kid, or did you play all that bullshit? Branch your horizons out. God damn.

Here's some other games I don't have that NOBODY has mentioned:

Brain Lord
Aladdin
Beavis & Butthead
Equinox
The Ignition Factor
Pac-Man 2
Pirates of Dark Water
Robotrek
Scooby Doo
The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang
Young Merlin

Robotrek is AWESOME, barring the terrible translation. I picked up Equinox (and Big Sky Trooper, natch) at Play-N-Trade a few weeks ago, but haven't played yet.

Treasure of the Rudra, for sure.  Probably the best SNES RPG to never officially see English yet.

thanks guys.. so far it's pretty fun!

Scooby's good but the Genesis version is so much better. It's a point and click in the same mold as Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion.

I'll add the following:

Metal Warriors
Wild Guns
Rock 'n Roll Racing
Claymates
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Batman Returns
Super Double Dragon
Phantom 2040
