In spite of working full-time during my summers off, I came out of university and Mountie-training (we didn't get paid for training when I went through, recruits do now, however) with $27,000k in debt between loans and credit line.

Not a ridiculous amount compared to some of the horror stories of you 'mericans, but still a depressing amount for me.

I figured I'd have it paid off in 3 and a half years.  But thanks to the amount of OT I've pulled, I've been able to wipe out that 27k in just a year and a half.

What Im saying is that a cop in the Netherlands would prob make 27k in 1.5 year. Not set it aside.

Starting salary for a cop in the netherlands is 1300 euro. So lets say you work for 18 months at 1500 euro. That would make 27k euro in 1.5 year. How could a dutch cop pay off 27k if thats all he makes? 

How much does a Canadian cop make?

I don't mind disclosing what I make, since it's practically public record.

My first year's salary was about 52k.  Made probably 9k in overtime on top of that.

This year, salary is 67k.  Made probably about 17k in overtime so far this year, we've been really busy.

At 3 years of service, my salary tops out at 78k a year as a constable.  Promotions obviously result in an increase in salary on top of that.

(again, for reference the Canadian dollar is just about at par with the Amiercan dollar right now)

RIDICULOUS competition to join the Nassau/Suffolk police forces... it's not uncommon for them to have 20,000+ applicants a year. But yes, they do make insanely high salaries (somewhat counterbalanced by the high cost-of-living in this area), and most of the Island is pretty safe... (with the exception of Hempstead, Freeport, Roosevelt, the usual)
