:lol

but in a serious note, all the impressions i have read are so far positive, it's basically windows live onecare better and free but without the extra stuff it came with (just the anti virus).

I did drop McAfee last year, though. Too bloated, used tons of resources. AVG is working great for me.

(As far as I know.)

Keep believing that. -spybot

I used Avira and AVG in the past, both were great.

AVG was less intrusive but Avira did better in the detection rate for me.

So you swear to the product's effectiveness?

On the eyes of the children of somebody you may or may not know? Some random Joe's bratty little children, perhaps?

Did a full scan and found one issue so far:

Exact Audio Copy is a very good audio ripper and never gave me any problem with AVG or Avira so this is surely a false positive.

it links to the ebay shortcuts but still...

Yeah, it specifically says to delete all other antivirus software first.

Norton 2009 is actually good from what I read.

but with free AVs getting more common I saw no need to try it.

Norton  :yuck

That shit fucked up my previous PC.  I had no idea how much better it ran without Norton, since it was installed from day one.  All the problems I had like frequent crashing and just everything running slower came from shitty-ass Norton.

It also didn't stop me from getting two nasty trojans that fucked up my PC so bad I had to wipe everything back in 2007.  But it led to me getting a MacBook (which has been problem-free!) several months later, so it all worked out nicely.

I switched over to Live OnceCare a couple of years ago after having a ton of issues with Norton. I also tried NOD for awhile, and liked it, but continued having some issues with crashing.

OneCare has been nice and fairly unintrusive, and it doesn't seem to bog my old laptop down at all, so I'll be giving this a whirl once OneCare runs out.
