Car accidents are fucking scary in person
« on: October 02, 2009, 06:17:04 PM »
Somehow I managed to reach the age of 21 without seeing one in person until this week. I was double parked in front of bank about 45 mins. ago when this black car speeds past me leaving a trail of smoke and slams into a Cadillac Escalade in the opposite lane about 30-40 yards in front of me. It felt like the world froze at that moment. It was an old white guy in the Cadillac. Some people had to pull him out of the passenger side and lay him down until an ambulance came (I called for one, but I'm sure I wasn't the first). His head and left arm were covered with blood. :( I have no idea what happened to the dumbfuck in the other car. I asked some other people before I left and they didn't know either. The only person that I saw leave in an ambulance was the old guy.

On Wednesday night a friend gave me a ride back to the Bronx from Long Island and this car sped past us, swerved between 2-3 other cars, spun out of control, and hit the barrier.

WTF is wrong with people?

I don't think I've seen an accident in person, beyond the odd bumper tap.

Damn, glad you're ok though man  :-\

I've never seen one happen, but I've seen the aftermath of accidents. Mainly ones on the freeway there traffic slows to a crawl as police/ambulances swarm the scene, then you slowly drive by a wrecked car. Once it was a car that had flipped over the divider on the freeway, I dunno if anyone died

I saw a car nose down in this really deep ditch between the interstate and an access road once. It was kind of funny, actually.

Yeah PD, I usually just see the aftermath too.

I was so shook afterwards. I was afraid to drive home less than 5 mins away. :lol

I saw a school bus strike my neighbor.  Not by the wheels, just the grill of the bus so fortunately when she fell, she never came in contact with the tires.

Why is it important to tell us that the car was black?   >:(

The only accident I've seen that I wasn't involved in was in Iran where this taxi like 4 cars behind cut off a motorcycle driver on the highway.  I guess his brakes locked or something because he fell down and then got run over by another car behind him.  The most messed up thing was when his helmet rolled past us and we were like 50 yards away.

My apartment faces the street on the first floor on a busy street where cars park on the curb.

Late at night cars speed by and very often I hear screeching tires, and akin to Dane Cook, I always hope to hear a crunch.

That is... until I heard one outside my window. The guy nearly fucking pushed a row cars through my living room at like 3AM. Out of the 2 dozen people that came outside, only I called 911. Basically it was some drunk guy and he was swerving, bumped against a line of cars and over corrected a few more times before coming to rest on the middle-curb-thing. Some nice cars got hit, too. Badly. Like, one of their tires was taken off and rolled under another one 3 cars away.

The guy tried to hoof it away on foot, but didn't get far.

My uncle has an auto shop and a couple of years ago, this one shiny white lexus comes in on a tow truck with all of it's wheels flat.  The owner of the car was in shock and just keeps muttering "The tires are flat.  They're flat.  They're all flat." and when my uncle checks the other side of the car, he sees that it's completely been caved in and there's a license plate stuck in the door.  It apparently belonged to the car that hit the lexus but then ran away from the accident.

I agree, Beezy. I've seen a few pretty bad wrecks. They always leave you pretty shook up.

Yeah, two different friends invited me over earlier. I wanted to go, but then I realized that I really don't wanna get into any cars tonight. :(

Seeing a bumper-bender is pretty surreal. "Hey, cars aren't supposed to do that to each other..." is usually all that crosses through my mind. Seeing an injury accident must be very weird. I've only seen the aftermath, and it's hard to picture how everything ended up the way it's now appearing.
