What gameplay possiblities? Looks like he's gonna be running around wacking guys like every other D-grade mascot platformer.

Wait, there's a 2D section with at least three flat platforms on screen, and a whatsit to nab. :drool

Oh shit I found a preview demo

You didn't give these enough press.

ORIGINALLY on PC/PS3/360 before they made it exclusive to add waggle.

THAT is why the original concept art was so awesome. It was made for awesome consoles.

Actually the game is supposed to revolve around changing the world, choosing different styles of platforming paths, and talking to NPCs.  ???

Bullshots look better than poor screen shots.  The world stands still.

The gameplay ideas sound kinda neat, though.

None of this is apparent in the pictures you were referring to.

Buuuuuuuut it's a mickey mouse game and won't be aimed at the intelligent human demographic, so it probably won't fully flesh out these ideas.

and that's not meant to be snarky, just comes from years of seeing games in previews, getting excited, then finding out their mechanics were not half as cool as they originally sounded.

Then again, I'm vehemently against the game, and if my track record is any indication it might just turn out to be great.

:piss Wii :piss2

As for the painting thing, as someone who spent two excruciating years doing heavy compositing work on a cruddy 15" monitor at dumb resolutions, it's hard to believe that brush gameplay won't be a bitch in SD. Either that, or it's just very imprecise and/or automatic.

They're still hiring and I know they're looking for a texture programmer, specifically. I laughed when I heard that yesterday.

Games can certainly look great without high detail textures, but this one just looks unbalanced and poorly composed all around. It has a bit of that "what, we're supposed to have art directors on staff?" that Rare games are famous for, but with fucked balance and composition instead of clutter. Maybe this environment is an isolated case, but it's odd that they would then use that environment to showcase the game.

It's the Wii.  Why bother trying?

The insane demand for almost three year old unambitious titles like Wii Play show that the demographics don't give much of a shit about graphics.  It just needs to look functional and resemble somewhat what the designers were aiming for.  As long as Mickey looks like Mickey, soccer moms will have little hesitation buying it for their eight year old son.

There's something very amusing about certain EB denizens being disappointed that their highly anticipated mascot platformer won't be as 'dark' as they hoped, now that it's on the Wii.

There are only so many ways you can make a diffuse texture  :lol

Well, right now it looks a bit like things were changed precisely because of a change in platform. So yeah, fuck Wii, for it is shit.

That's my biggest concern. It's as if what they're showing off when it sounds like they restarted development for the Wii and really are sucking at optimizing for it.

not even the bullshots crushed posted look very good.

shame that such an acclaimed person like warren can't make a wii game that's up to snuff graphically with many ps2 games.

I'm guessing that they didn't show the best-looking level in those screens, just the one that was the most finished.  I'm prepared to eat crows if wrong though.

Who knows, it could work out great. I remember at GDC a few years back, before the Tomb Raider license was given to Crystal Dynamics, Warren mouthing off (politely) at a panel on licensed IP that he'd drool over a chance to work on a license, like maybe Tomb Raider. He claimed there is so much opportunity to work within any licensed IP's ruleset, and to turn out something of quality.

This is his chance to prove that point, I'm very hopeful that he wasn't just blowing massive steam.
