It makes sense since Nvidia plans to compete with both Intel and AMD in not just 3d graphics but also general computing.

For example, Nvidia supposedly already have a GPU acclerated anti-virus utiliy that will soon be released.

With regards to Eel's concern, he shouldn't fret because no serious gamer would use an intergrated graphics chip anyway.

I got a GTX 275 a month or so ago and think it's great.  I've been using Nvidia cards since my first dedicated beast gaming PC in early 2000s with my 4600.  I think it was the 6800 ultra, then the 8800gt, and now the GTX 275.  That said, if in 2+ years when I feel the need to upgrade and ATI is the undisputed king, then I will have no problem getting their stuff.

And I'm all for competition and all, but it was getting stupid.  Physx is nice and all but it was mostly just a bulletpoint to say "get this over that!" Right now they're doing it again with 3D.  ATI kinda pushed ahead with a more practical solution of making a powerful DX11 card.

I haven't used an ATI card since the X1900 but I have to say that the 5870 is one of the best cards I've had in the last 5 years.  Sure it doesn't do Physx but if you're hardcore enough to own a top tier videocard, you should also have a seperate GPU that is dedicated to just Physx acceleration.  I'll go into more details once I've complied more benchmark data but right now I would recommend 2 5870s over any multi-gpu configurations.  2x5870s are even better than 2x295. For single GPU, it's a toss-up between the 295 GTX and 5870.  The 295 is a bit faster in most scenarios and has PhysX support but the 5870 is much quieter, supports DX11 features and could possibly be faster in future games.
