He's really confused, plus he got laid off recently which has pushed him farther to the right.

I'd say so. Who better than the unemployed to advocate the abolition of a safety net?

He also started reading Atlas Shrugged. Huh. Objectivism and unemployment checks... what would Ayn Rand think?

He takes unemployment checks and is a libertarian?  :lol :lol I guess you do pay for it.

FROM FOX NEWS...

Let’s take a look at the president’s first 12 days in the White House according to his public schedule to see what he did to deserve a Nobel Peace Prize:

January 20: Sworn in as president. Went to a parade. Partied.

January 21: Asked bureaucrats to re-write guidelines for information requests. Held an “open house” party at the White House.

January 22: Signed Executive Orders: Executive Branch workers to take ethics pledge; re-affirmed Army Field Manual techniques for interrogations; expressed desire to close Gitmo (how’s that working out?)

January 23: Ordered the release of federal funding to pay for abortions in foreign countries. Lunch with Joe Biden; met with Tim Geithner.

January 24: Budget meeting with economic team.

January 25: Skipped church.

January 26: Gave speech about jobs and energy. Met with Hillary Clinton. Attended Geithner's  swearing in ceremony.

January 27: Met with Republicans. Spoke at a clock tower in Ohio.

January 28: Economic meetings in the morning, met with Defense secretary in the afternoon.

January 29: Signed Ledbetter Bill overturning Supreme Court decision on lawsuits over wages. Party in the State Room. Met with Biden.

January 30: Met economic advisers. Gave speech on Middle Class Working Families Task Force. Met with senior enlisted military officials.

January 31: Took the day off.

February 1: Skipped church. Threw a Super Bowl party.

So there you have it. The short path to the Nobel Peace Prize: Party, go to meetings, skip church, release federal funding to pay for abortions in foreign countries, party some more.

From Bill Kristol:

The magazine I edit, The Weekly Standard, features a Parody each week. We had a pretty good one ready to go today (the magazine closes Friday). But now we’ll have to scrap it. Instead, we’ll do something we do occasionally, and publish a Not a Parody instead. And for that we’ll simply reproduce the headline, ”Barack Obama Wins 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.”

I don’t even think we’ll need to comment. We could point out that peace hasn’t broken out anywhere yet during President Obama’s tenure, or that even his various peace efforts haven’t yet begun to make much progress. We could note that, if the Swedes Norwegians wanted to give the Nobel Peace Prize to an American, it would have been been better to give it to Sen. John McCain for having the guts to push through the surge in Iraq, which has brought relative peace to that country. But that would be overkill. The choice is so self-evidently Not a Parody that no explanation is required or possible.

So thank you, Nobel Committee, for making my job easier.

Is Obama the youngest person to win it?

Could be.

A few winners for the regular Nobel prize have been younger: William Lawrence Bragg [25], Frederic Joliot [32], Frederick Banting [35], and Rudyard Kipling [42].

Edit: Nope, Jody Williams was about a year younger.

This is some stupid bullshit.

The guy hasn't accomplished ANYTHING related to peace.  I mean, he hasn't even been trying really which makes sense as there's other issues to handle.  In my opinion, he certainly doesn't deserve it for any tangible accomplishments, which is the only thing that I think a nobel prize should be awarded for, and he hasn't even put in an impressive amount of effort into accomplishing any peace-related goals.

This is just pathetic political bullshit.

...why? What has Obama done to win this reward? "Changing the climate of international politics" rings hallow when you consider his diplomatic politics are quite normal and sane compared to the ridiculous actions of the previous administration.

Breath of fresh air, I suppose.  The fact that he seems to take diplomatic procedures very seriously rather than boom pow gotcha politics.  He opened up discussions with Iran, is a huge force in the UN, trying to close Gitmo, etc.  I'm not saying he deserves it, which I don't really think he does, but the proof that they based to win off of is there.  It's just shoddy and lightweight proof, is all.

True, and troops are leaving there every day. He's doing what he said he'd do there, and in Afghanistan. But has he closed Gitmo or achieved universal health care or lowered nuclear weapons/secured loose nukes or global warming etc etc etc?

Obama has accepted it perfectly. Even he admits it was unearned. But if he truly takes it as a call to action it'll be a good thing. Maybe this will finally will him to accomplish...something

Oh foc, stop pulling out generated responses from the Right's Agenda.  They don't work.

and PD, I see your point about all that (health care, global warming, nuclear stuff, etc), but he's certainly trying in those fields and making as much progress as he can with the giant Republican gorilla on his back.  He hasn't gotten the quick results he's wanted, but the fact that a President is PURSUING these ideals is a breath of fresh air for many Americans and other peoples of the world.

Still, they certainly shot their wad with the award.
