Hmm, so this is why they never bothered to fix the Mighty Mouse's scroll ball.  Well, I'll probably get one.

It's for the artsy distinguished effete fellows browsing huffpost.

It's $69.
Same price as the Mighty Mouse, then.

Meh, only about ten bucks more than my Logitech mouse that I use.  Cool technology but I hardly ever use a mouse to begin with, I just love my MBPs trackpad too much.

How can you play games with this?

Apple better get back in the tree.
Applefags don't play games on their Apple, they use it for computer stuff and impress other people.

:smug

Looks very hot.

That looks pretty cool, actually.  This is the first time since their first that Apple had a neat mouse.  I'm hoping Logitech or Microsoft put out something similar, except designed around games and productivity.  Like, it would be pretty cool in an RTS game to scroll around the map by dragging two fingers around while still being able to control the cursor like you would normally control it.

I wonder if it'll have any kind of haptic or audio feedback for clicking, like the little piezo speaker in the Mighty Mouse. If it doesn't, then that's the one thing I can imagine that might bother me about it.

Not really mang.  It's basically just taking their technology in the macbook trackpads and putting it into a mouse form factor.  Seems pretty cool to me.

Or you can map that function to the scroll ball. Or just use hotkeys like any non-scrub.

It seems like the Wii philosophy is being integrated into the Mighty Mouse.

The real benefit of this mouse - and the one Apple isn't talking about - is that it will allow 2D scrolling control on top of the mouse without needing a mechanical ball that gets gummed up if it's not maintained by disassembling the mouse.

Hey, that almost sounds like a tilting scroll wheel that's been included with every PC mouse above $20 for the last half-decade now. And wasn't the whole idea behind the the scroll ball over a scroll wheel on the Mighty Mouse that it was more intuitive? :teehee

Tilt on a scroll wheel doesn't offer you anywhere near the same kind of control and tactility you get with a scroll ball. You get one speed left or right. It's like holding down arrow keys.

What are you guys doing on a daily basis that you need to scroll diagonally and still have complete control over the cursor?

I just can't help but feel that this is another excuse for the rabid Mac fanboys to feel more progressive, and I also don't doubt that the (unnecessary) functionality won't be nearly as problem-free as advertised -- like the Wii, and like the scroll ball. I'd at least like a normal mouse for the people that are perfectly capable of (and prefer) using the PC model so that when I have to use my Mac I'm not forced to take it up the ass from overreaching tech designers that favor intuitiveness over practicality.

Why did you change his smiley?
Smug is more fitting, but it was way at the bottom and I forgot about it.

I like how the right click feature is pitched as something worth mentioning.
Good slick feel to it though, but that's expected with Apple.

Glad this thread is re-opened. I'll probably buy this mouse. I hate my Mighty Mouse and miss my PowerBook's sexy, easy-to-use, ambidextrously accessible trackpad. Sounds like they're on the right path.
