Secret Santa 2009: SHOW OFF WHAT YOU GOT, BITCHES!

READ THIS OP IN ITS ENTIRETY BEFORE SIGNING UP OR POSTING IN THIS THREAD

Welcome, everyone, to the FOURTH ANNUAL EVILBORE SECRET SANTA! :elf

Here are the brief rules. If you can't comply with these, don't sign up.

  • ONLY SIGN UP IF YOU ARE ACTUALLY GOING TO PARTICIPATE. Demi will ban your ass forever if you flake off on sending a gift. If you have to back out for some substantially important reason PLEASE let me know well before Christmas.
  • There's no need to blow a whole bunch of money on your gift (unless you really want to). $25-$30 USD excluding shipping is the accepted standard, if you are worried about what you should spend.
  • Don't send anything dangerous that could get you or the recipient in trouble with the law (hazardous or illicit materials, e.g. alcohol, drugs). That should be obvious.
  • Try to wrap the gift up. What's the fun in getting a gift if you can't unwrap it? If you're buying online, places like Amazon have a gift wrap option that is pretty cheap.
  • Please try to send the package so it will arrive on or before Christmas. There will be a grace period for late packages, since it's a very busy mail time.

Okay! If you've read all of that and decided you still want to participate, here's what you need to do:

1. PM (Private Message) me with your shipping address. Include your real, full name, otherwise people can run into problems at the post office. NO P.O. boxes unless they can accept packages.

2. Post in this thread with the following info:
a) Where do you live?
b) Will you ship internationally? (flexibility on this is appreciated, we have a lot of international members)
c) Anything in particular that you want? (include game systems, clothes size, and any other relevant info)

-> Make sure you do BOTH steps 1 and 2 before proceeding! If you do not do BOTH steps you will not be registered! <-

3. The cut-off date is November 2nd. On the 3rd I'll send you your recipient's user name and shipping address.

4. Now that you know who you're buying for, get shopping! Try to send out your gift with plenty of time for it to get there on or before Christmas Day.

Other things:

- If you want, you can include your name/username on the gift to your recipient. I will eventually post a list of who was matched up with who, so if you want to remain anonymous until then, that's okay too.
- Keep the gifts age-appropriate, no sending porn to minors.
- Keep in mind that international shipping can sometimes be costly depending on how much the package weighs. If you're short on cash this holiday season, keep your international packages light.
- You can usually calculate shipping depending on weight by either calling your local post office and asking, or using a shipping calculator on your country's postal service website.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Mrs. Mantra will draw the names this year and coordinate PMs for me.

a) USA
b) I will ship internationally
c) I'm up for anything, but here are some ideas:

Misc.:Gundam, Macross, Votoms and Super Robot Wars stuff. I wear men's small t-shirts and I love baseball (particularly the Seattle Mariners and Nippon Ham Fighters).
Food stuff: Aero Bars, Mars bars, Hi-Chew, Haribo gummis and crazy flavored Fanta from all over the world.
Gaming:I'd love a PSN card from the UK or Hong Kong (really want Catan and Outrun!). A US PSN card would also work since I love getting new Rock Band songs.  As for gaming systems, I can play Japanese/North American Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, DS and Gamecube games. A Japanese copy of Bayonetta for the PS3 would rock, but it's way out of our listed budget so unless you're really generous, ignore this. I have a slight morbid curiosity in both 50 Cent: Blood on the Sands and Red Faction: Guerrilla, but I'd never buy them. If my SS has access to Japanese games, I'm also interested in the Gunbuster PS2 game and any of the J-Phoenix (JP) PS2 titles.

My DVD collection is available at http://distantmantra.dvdaf.com, I keep the wish list up to date.

1. PM (Private Message) me with your shipping address. Include your real, full name, otherwise people can run into problems at the post office. NO P.O. boxes unless they can accept packages.

2. Post in this thread with the following info:
a) Korea! I will send you a JPG of the address, it's more reliable than a crummy romanization of my address.
b) Yes!
c) I really love local specialities. DO NOT SEND ME: Meats/Agricultural Products. They will literally incinerate the package because Korea is fucking insane about some things. I'm open for PC golden-oldies or general oddities. I like things I can tell a story about!

1) Los Angeles
2) International is okay this year. (Up until the Canadian post starts becoming a bitch again)
3) I'm a dirty rock band/guitar hero/ps3 whore. (I have a good PC, PSP, DS, Wii, PS2, PS3, etc. Everything but the MS side) The easy way out is a $20 PSN card, but I'd prefer a surprise. Maybe a recent Popcap game, or a Page-a-day calender with some random fact stuff on it. Or an Uncle John's Bathroom Reader. Or Nerds Ropes.

a) Holland
b) Yeah, sure. Otherwise I might as well send a gift to Kosma now.
c) Since I never allow myself to nerd out, maybe something superhero/comicbook related, preferably DC. A good book, something for PS3 or Xbox 360, or like Borys said, something from your country. Knick-knacks!

You know I don't think many people will notice the thread pinned up there.

We had 6 participants in 5 hours. The topic will be up here for 19 more days, which is 456 hours.
So we'll probably have a total of about 550 participants.  :tophat

I'm a firm believer in giving noobs a chance, but only because not a single person has ripped me off on teh intarwebs yet. If it happens this year, fuck you, but I don't preemptively think it will because Bore people are generally good people.

I feel better about noobs on EB than GAF, which is why I'm not running SS over there anymore.

1.) DC Area
2.) Sure.
3.) I own a PS2, Dreamcast, and Wii. If you are from Europe, a PAL version of Shenmue 2 for Dreamcast would be awesome. I'm also a writer, so one of your favorite novels would be awesome too (no fantasy, please). A book on CD? I'm assistant music director at the college radio station too, so if you have a band you really love but no one has heard of I'd love to listen (be careful, though, I have a LOT of music). vinyls would be welcome too. Uhh outside of that, cool regional stuffs like food or a cool decorative to put around the suite.

Count me in this year.

1. Georgia, USA
2. Yea sure, why not?
3. Hmm, ok, here is a brief overview.

I have an XBox 360, a fattie PS2, and a Nintendo DS Lite. (All 3 are US region). On the 360, I prefer shooters, rpgs, and sports games. My PS2 is mainly used for older rpgs I have like Shadow Hearts, Kingdom Hearts, etc. My DS is my time killer at work and on vacation. I wear an Mens Large or Xtra-Large, depending on the make of the shirt (so if you notice that a particular brand of shirt's large is a bit smaller than another brand's large, go with the XL to be safe)Those sizes are American (don't know if International sizes are different or not). I like to read science-fiction, mystery, action, and fantasy books to relieve stress.  I play some Magic-The Gathering, but not alot anymore. I play D&D 3.5, the older World of Darkness (all types), pretty much any Role-playing game. Honestly, surprise me. This is just a general idea of things I like. I'll include a list of role-playing items below that I own as well as authors I like/read/own books for to help my SS out :) Also, I'm a big Falcons, Braves, Georgia Bulldogs fan.  I also like boardgames and card games in general.

Authors:

R.L. Salvatore (I own all the Drizzt books)
Jim Butcher (I actually own every book hes put out except for the 2 yet to be released)
Mercedes Lackey
Stephen King
Dean Koontz
James Patterson
Harry Turtledove
Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (I own alot of the Dragonlance books)

Role-Playing books I own:

D&D 3.5 PHB (Players handbook)
D&D 3.5 DMG (Dungeon Master Guide)
D&D 3.5 Tome of Magic
(I have access to the other D&D 3.5 books via my gaming group, but feel free to buy one and send it to me)
Mage: The Ascension
(I have access to all the other older WOD books via my gaming group, but feel free to help with my collection.)
Star Wars D20 system (The latest edition)

All in all, surprise me. I'm open to mostly anything (no political books please :) ). The last time I got something from EB (not SS, but still), it was from Groo, the King of Kings. I still :bow to Groo over that gift.

Drinking games are definitely welcome, so is booze. Unique is cool too, and my apartment could use some decorating. Please no anime stuff. Wear size 12 shoes and men's medium.

What would be awesome is a movie that for whatever reason you enjoyed, that is generally accepted by most people to be god-awful. The type of movie you see in a store and just think, "Good lord, why would anyone buy that?", except I guess you wouldn't think that 'cause you like it. If it blows, it blows, and I turn it into a drinking game. If it's fuckawesome--I have very fickle taste in music and movies--then it's fuckawesome, and I turn it into a drinking game.

Pairing is dumb. It's better just to link everyone in a giant chain.

OH COME THE FUCK ON WINE CONNOISSEUR & PEANUT BUTTER SALESMAN

What is the plan when there's an odd number of participants, distantmantra?

Um, it doesn't matter if there is an odd number. There is no pairing. Everyone is randomly assigned.

I ran a test drawing this morning using a random generator and everything went smoothly.

Unless they say otherwise, Cohen and GilloD are in, they just need to get me their addresses soon.

Weeaboo weepost:
a) Japan
b) Sure
c) Will fill in later I guess I have a PS3 and no games for it at all. Not a one. US PlayStation Shop purchasing points or any (used or new) ROM-based PS3 must-play game ARE WIN. Anything which particularly benefits from Bluray is also welcome, TV series or movie. If my SS is outside the USA and there is something particularly interesting in your region which also will not have trouble clearing customs or draw attention to my name on Carnivore or Eschelon systems, boo ya.

a) USA
b) Yes
c) Anything that's cool, especially if you're in another country. If you can't think of anything, I really like animation. New or old, good or bad (as long as it's campy), DVD or Blu-Ray, domestic or foreign (but nothing too animu), it's all good. Here's a list of what I have: http://obsidianphoenix.dvdaf.com/owned/animation

The first twenty people have been sent their assignments for Secret Santa. Apparently there is a 20 PM/hour limit, so everyone else will get theirs in an hour.

Yay!

Can we send our present now or do we have to wait?

Send it whenever you'd like, just as long as it gets there before Christmas.
