PSP and PS22222 version I think are beginning of Jan. I suspect Nintendo was like HRM GAMES FOR OUR NEW CONSOLE and shoved some people around and made it happen so Wii would get its version first, cause god damn this release for ALL three versions has been bumped around like mad.

It appears that MSA does not support the classic controller and that you can only use the control stick on the GC and Wii controllers.

PS2 version FTW. Hopefully, they don't fuck that up too.

I regret ever making this thread.

I have now learned that they didn't program this game to work with the virtual controller.  Fucking fuck ups at SNK playmore are pathetic human beings.

Ok, so you think, no big deal, i'll just use the Gamecube controller right?  Well, sort of.  They did allow Gamecube controller support!  Yeah, everyone is happy.  Well, um no.  They motherfuckers didn't even program the d-pad on the Gamcube controller to work with the game!  Thats right!  You can only use the analog stick for a game that uses digital inputs!  Fucking brilliant you dumb motherfuckers!  OMG.  Please fire the project manager for this game.  Immediately.  ::)

Um...

Is it possible to use the Wiimote? Because playing Gunstar, Sigma Star Soldier, and Bonk is really a pain free process with the Wiimote.

Yes, you can use the wiimote, but then you have to shake the controller to throw grenades.  ::)  No matter how you play this game you're playing it with a gimped control scheme.  It's either the Gamecube analog stick, or the Wiimote with motion based grenade throwing.  Fucking idiots programmed this game, and it's clear why SNK Playmore has so many problems.  They're just a bunch of fucking fuck ups.  I know thats harsh, but it's the truth.

They made a game for a very niche market, and they didn't even realize that you have to allow those hardcore players to play the game with a very natural control scheme.  These idiots created 5 fucking worthless control schemes that make no sense at all, but failed to provide the most basic, and simple controle scheme as an option.

I just tried registering at SNK Playmore's website, so I could post a fucking shitbomb message on their forums, demanding they fire the project manager for this game.  Yeah, i'm serious.

These motherfuckers can't even get their website working properly.  I tried entering my information to register, and it tells me I entered an incorrect "confirmation code".  The only problem is there is no fucking space for a confirmation code anywhere on the fucking page!  Shocking right?   ::)

Can you go over the problem with using the analog stick with the game though? I've been playing lots of 2d games recently with the analog stick. I played MMX games with the analog stick all summer in fact.

The word is that the PS2 version will be out in January.  Of course I wouldn't count on that, but thats what they're saying right now.  You should never put faith in anything this company claims.  They're about as unreliable as a company can get.

The Wii version is superior due to the many Remote/Nunchuck control schemes.

I'm sure i'll try, but I feel like an asshat for buying the fucking game now.  This was probably one of the top 10 games I looked forward to this year, and now they figured out a way to fuck it up.  Unbelievable.

It's just fucking hilarious to think that I would even have to "get used to" some fucked up control scheme.  It's a fucking d-pad!  It's a fucking d-pad control scheme!  How fucking hard should it be to put that in?  Thats like building a car and forgetting to put the motherfucking wheels on it!   I seriously hope to god that the project manager for this game is fired.  I don't like seeing people lose their job, but this dude deserves it so badly it's not even funny.

I cannot believe that someone on this project didn't sit up in a meeting at some point and say, "Hey guys, shouldn't we provide at least one controle scheme that will make the truly hardcore player happy?  How about making sure the classic controller works for the game, or at the very least make sure the d-pad works on the Gamecube controller."

You'd think such a thing would have happened at some point, but this company is so full of fuckups that it just didn't get done.  Unfuckingbelievable.

Dude, have you seen those control schemes in action?  They're fucking ridiculous.  NO ONE Is going to use them.  These dumb fucks spent time programming in stupid shit like holding the wiimote upright like an old arcade stick, and you tilt it to move your guy!  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

No one is going to play with that shit, and then they left out something so fucking basic like d-pad support on the Gamecube controller!!!!!!!!!!   ::) ::) ::) ::)

Wow. If other devs do this shit, 2d gaming is going to be annoying on waggle.

This whole thing goes against Nintendo's whole goal with Wii.

"Easier to use and simpler asfjaslfjds."

Right.  ::)

People are just inspired by the possibilities the remote and nunchuck have to offer. More choices is a good thing. The GC dpad isn't any good anyway. Waggle to throw gernades is much more satisfying.

There is a video on Gamevideos.com of them showing all the various control schemes.  You'll seriously laugh out loud at how fucking dumb these ideas are.

Hey everyone, tilt the wiimote on it's side to move your guy!  It works great, no seriously.....

I just got back from my Toy's R Us, and even with all my complaining I still bought the game like the gaming whore I am.  :(

I couldn't help it!  I've dreamt of the day when I could own all of these great games.  Over the years i've only played the few versions that got released in the U.S, and I only played the original back when I owned a Saturn, and I imported the game.  My Saturn broke though, and I sold the games.

So, to finally have all of the Metal Slug games on a single disk, is like a dream come true.  Unfrotunately the controls options are going to impair my enjoyment to some degree.  I just hope it's not enough to ruin the experience for me.  I cannot wait to get home from work today and fire up the first Metal Slug game.  I haven't played it in years.

Bingo!

I'm very impatient when it comes to games.  I think thats what drives people like me to become importers.  We want our games NOW, not in 2 months.  In recent years things have improved greatly though.  We're even getting consoles like the Wii before Japan.  So, i've totally stopped my importing habits.

Also, I really have no desire to buy a new PS2 game at this point, and I don't even plan to have it hooked up to my HDTV anytime soon.

Just got done playing an hour of the game.

The Good:

Pretty much arcade perfect graphics, and no slowdown.  All the games are on one disk for $40.

The Bad:

Cheapo menus everywhere you look.  The controller options.  The motherfucking control options!!!!!  :(  Yes, they're as bad as I thought.  I pretty much have to accept using the Gamecube analog stick, as that is the only decent option available.  How sad is it that I have to simply find the lesser evil for the controls!  How stupid does that sound?

The analog stick is just not as responsive as a d-pad.  It's really not even close.  It's annoying to use, and i'm not normally someone to complain about controls in games.  This is just stupid.  The classic controller would have been so perfect for this game, and i'd have an instant classic in my hands right now.  I can only hope that by some miracle of the gods, they release a patch to allow classic controller support for the game.  I believe the chances of that are almost nil though.  Nintendo is not going to allow patches for games, unless it is absolutely necessary.

For those of you wondering about the "other" semi decent controller option.  You can tilt the wiimote on it's side, and play the game that way.  That is in fact the default setting for the game.  However, the big problem with this control option is that the throwing of the grenades is motion based.  ::)  I thought that might not be so bad, but it is.  Once again the dumb fuck programmers got in the way, and made is so it requires a pretty good jolt in order to throw a grenade.  Thats just stupid when you're in the middle of an intense action game like this.  Throwing your hands forward is just not gonna work for 99% of the gaming population.

But hey, at least they made that 1% real happy.

Overall, this game is worth a purchase, only for the absolute die hards.  Otherwise just pray to god the PS2 version doesn't get assfucked.  As long as that version has the arcade perfect graphics, and perfect control options, i'll likely buy that version of the game in a month.

The more I check out, the more stupid stuff I find in this game.

Even the way the menus are setup is fucking hilarious stupid.  Get this.

From the main game menu, you can choose to enter any of the 7 games available on the disc.  Well, I have the game set to "hard" which means that I only get 9 continues.  So, I play through the game, and I run out of continues, and it's game over.  Well, it let's me enter my high score, and then it kicks me back to that game's start menu.  The only problem is that since i'm out of continues, it refuses to let me start over.  It's literally like having an arcade machine, in that once you're out of continues, you're done playing.  Meaning you have to exit out of that game, wait 10 seconds of loading, then re-enter that particular Metal Slug game, and then start from there.  ::)  It's so stupid it's funny.  :lol

The other hilariously dumb thing is the menus, and the buttons that work on them.  For instance, in the middle of the game if you press the pause button, you can't just un-pause the game by pressing the same button, nope, you need to press a different button to un-pause the game.

Every time you exit a game, it asks if you want to save your control settings, regardless of whether or not you're actually changed any control options.  It just asks every time.  :lol

When navigating menus, the d-pad on the Gamecube controller works just fine, but the analog stick is dead.  You enter a game, d-pad is dead, and analog stick is now active.  ::)  You can't make this shit up, it's the kind of shit that only SNK Playmore could fuck up.

No, the analog stick is not too responsive, because it doesn't behave like an analog stick in the game.  This is because the game doesn't actually have analog controls programmed into it.  Intstead, it only registers movements when they are fully pushed left, right, up, or down.  So, it basically feels like it has a lot of dead space, and that is absolute horse shit when you need split second response times.
