Some of the special effects are still pretty cool looking today. And Cameron is a bad ass director when he's not making movies about ships that sank and shit. And the action scenes OMG OMG freaking still awesome to this day. Plus, this movie made me attracted to insane militia chicks, and sent Edward Furlong down the road to heroin addiction and boinking Punky Brewster.

All in all: Best Action Movie of All Time, Ever

It's been fifteen years and computer generated effects have barely evolved past T2 and Jurassic Park. Why is that? I was watching The Wizard Of Oz the other night and thinking about how special effects from the year Nineteen Hundred Thirty-Nine were smoking effects from modern movies. Hollywood is beyond sad.

It, along with Jurassic Park, will still look ageless in 10 years.

A definite feat.

I haven't seen Terminator 3 yet but I doubt it'd top the 2nd one.

Hard Boiled is pretty eye-popping shit, with no computer trickery that I know of. Just traditional stuntwork and effects. So I'd put that up there, too.

Jurassic Park featured an amazing mix of CGI, robots, and REAL sets. Mixing all this together gave the movie a real organic feel. This can't be said of something like the new Star Wars movies, where many of the freaking sets were CGI enhanced.

Ouside of Gollum I can't think of many CGI effects that look leaps ahead of Jurassic Park's.

The best use of cgi representing "real world" stuff that I've ever seen was in Band of Brothers. It's really subtle (although the Normandy drop sequence was off), and blends in perfectly with the physical sets and actors. Watching the behind-the-scenes, I was amazed at how much cgi there was. I thought some of that stuff was real.

The CGI in Pirates 2 for Davey Jones is rather amazing. I think it's one of the best. As for the topic, There a very few action movies that are as bad ass as T2. I love it to pieces.

I notice you're always talking about cuts. I don't know what that means. Now ok, so there are director's cuts of movies, but I notice those usually come out on DVD instead of going to the theater. So the director does not choose which cut goes to the theater? Or how does that work I'm confused

Most films usually have more than one cut in existence, whether or not said cut is released to the public. Usually they are just cuts that were deemed too strong for whatever rating the studio was shooting for, or if a director/producer was forced to cut their film for time/content, they can add scenes back in later.

Some director's cuts, like that of Donnie Darko, are released in theaters for a limited time before hitting DVD.

Come to think of it, the whole zombie pirates scene when Swan was being molested by skeletons had some incredible CGI as well, sans the whole Barbosa drinking CG wine thing. I have a feeling this will stand the test of time as well.

Commando is really in another category. I love it, as does every man on earth, but it's one of those movies that's so BAD that it's awesome - it's just ridiculous in every sense of the word. Terminator 2 is actually a damn good movie.

Commando is really in another category. I love it, as does every man on earth, but it's one of those movies that's so BAD that it's awesome - it's just ridiculous in every sense of the word. Terminator 2 is actually a damn good movie.

Commando doesn't forget about the plot for like 40 minutes as an excuse to develop semi-likeable characters.
