Yeah I must have skipped the day we studied the life and times of Roger Corman.  ::)

I can't fathom anyone that has a level of respect for cinema history not brushing up on Roger Corman. He's pretty influential - a lot of people owe their careers to him.

I think you're probably the first film school grad that I've met that didn't care.

Where did I say that I didnt care? I just said I didnt know he was still alive.

Obviously Splatter will change everything though.

The fact that you were unaware that he was still alive pretty much indicates a level of indifference that is surprising from a film school grad.

Even the editor I talked too didnt know he was still alive before he met him. So stop being so self righteous.

If being aware of the comings and goings of a respected industry figurehead is being self righteous, then I will gladly take that label. To me, it just speaks volumes about your indifference - I highly doubt you'd have the same response for Francis Ford Coppola.

I guess we just hang out in different social circles.

So this thread went well.

Hey, I brought you the mana from heaven that is Roger Corman and Joe Dante! Don't blame me!

The same Roger Corman responsible for directing classic Edgar Allan Poe adaptations written by Richard Matheson? The same Roger Corman responsible for the careers of Francis Ford Coppola, Scorcese, Ron Howard, James Cameron, Joe Dante, John Sayles, Johnathan Demme, etc.? The same Roger Corman that gave breaks to Jack Nicholson, Robert DeNiro, Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, etc? The same Roger Corman that revolutionized how films were produced? The same Roger Corman that is going to receive an Honorary Academy Award at this year's ceremony?

Seriously, get the fuck out. You should call whatever university you got your degree from and get a fucking refund.

I watched The Pit and the Pendulum a few weeks ago. It's still a pretty good movie.

Yeah, all his Poe stuff still stands up. The vast majority of the stuff he produced, however, does not. It's purely Grade-B cinema designed to make a quick buck, but he was as inventive and clever as he was cheap.

I don't think he was the greatest director or producer ever, but he was extremely influential and his impact can definitely be appreciated. And pardon me if I think a filmmaker should know he's still alive when it was even announced he is to receive an Academy Award next year.

Is your friend the dude with the gay-hawk?

No, my friend is Tara. She's the brunette that got her throat cut.

My second roommate in Hollywood had a son, and she was his mother. She was pretty cool, even though they hated one another.

He was kind of a jerk, which is why I communicate with his ex and not him, despite us being roommates.

Corey Feldman is pretty bad in this. He uses that forced "Dark Knight" voice he used in The Lost Boys sequel.
