Why are Gamestop bozos never aware of their own specials?
« on: October 31, 2009, 01:25:53 PM »
So they have this deal where you trade in two games (from a list) towards certain new games, and the new game is only $20.  When I go in there to put the two games towards Dragon Age, dude looks at me like I'm lying and we end up going through this whole long process of looking at flyers, looking shit up on the computer, etc.  Nearly fifteen minutes of this shit just to trade two games.  It's like that any time I go into a Gamestop for one of their trade specials, no matter which store I go to.  Don't they fucking tell their monkeys about the deals they're running?  And this particular deal has been going on for a while now, so you'd think the dude would be familiar.

Because just like every other retail job in America, that dude working behind the counter doesn't really care about that job.

I think it's that way for any store, that people on the Internet have more up-to-date information about sales that are being run than the employees.

I had the same thing happen with Tekken 6.  Gamestop.com sent out coupons that gave more store credit than usual on certain titles if you trade them towards the game.  I printed it out and gave it to the clerk, and she had no idea what the hell I was talking about, despite having already scanned the coupon.  I had to tell her several times that the game I was trading was now worth $20, not $13 as usual.  I'm not gonna complain though, because somehow what I traded in ended up being worth $75 in credit, which makes no sense considering what I had.   :lol

This particular Gamestop also never has me in their system, which is weird, since I only go to that location and obviously they have my e-mail if I'm getting coupons from them.

if that were the case i'd think he wouldn't have given a shit instead of going through all the hassle

i'd agree if it were a store with dozens of employees per store, like a best buy, but i always see the same people in the same gamestops, and they never seem to have more than 4-5 people working per store

Which store did you go to?  After shopping around the Wilmington Gamestops, I've concluded that the stores in front of both the WalMarts (Market St. and the Monkey Junction one) have the best/most knowledgeable staffs.  I tend to go to the Monkey Junction location because they're closer to my house and have hot chicks working some of the time.

But as a former manager, I can tell you that you probably dealt with a part timer or newbie in that transaction.  GS also tends to run 1,001 trade in deals, further complicating the ability of someone who is there for three five hours shifts a week to keep on top of everything.  For instance, in addition to the "trade in two games from this list" to get a game for $20 deal, pretty much all of those new release games qualify for a deal where your trade-ins get an extra 25% credit towards the reservation on it.  Then there's the "trade in 3 games get an extra $10, four or more and get an extra $20" etc etc etc.  They also send out weekly coupons in their emails and plenty of employees have never seen those when I bring one in.

But yeah, I recommend the Monkey Junction location next to the Quiznos.  Nice big selection and a mostly competent staff.

i can see that, i guess i was just tweaked by the "you're lying to me" look i got - i'm always overpolite to cashiers/salespeople, so when i get the 'tude in return my jaw involuntarily clenches

to be fair, the guy didn't try to give me the normal spiel and push anything else on me, so that was a relief

i went to the one on market
