Is Days of Ruin the best Nintendo DS game ever?
« on: November 02, 2009, 08:21:08 PM »
Days of Ruin's music is so beast, I just leave it running sometimes. Advance Wars is the best series to come out of Nintendo.

Hate getting into stalemate landlock, though. Seems to happen often.

I'm only on Mission 13. Not really concerned with ranks or the trial maps.

It really does own. It's the last DS game that I paid for. I need to get it back from my friend...

We better get a direct sequel for this. I love just about everything about it and the style is way better than the other AW games.

Days of Ruin is one of the best.  Series is very underappreciated and spanks fire emblem with big muscly arms.

All Advance Wars game are treated equal. But I hear Dual Strike is really broken. I never got far in it either. I usually just kinda lose interest.

What is this you speak of?  I think I got up to the final mission and don't remember any stalemates.

Some matches often end up in a lock of constantly buying tanks etc and just repeating the same process while the enemy does the same.

It could be because the wrong approach was taken, or the enemy snagged more cities than you, or simply got lucky.

How could you say this was less ambitious than Dual Strike? Dual Strike was just Nintendo slapping 2x the characters into every single game in the mid 2000s.

I remember playing only once online. I totally spanked this dude who thought he had me. It was a map filled with islands. He had built up this force of tanks and rockets and artillery that had taken the middle of the map. But I used subs to distract him while I used landers to sneak around and occupy his HQ, then used planes I had kept hidden in the corner of the map to squat on all his factories/shipyards/airstrips.

When he realized that all his land forces couldn't possibly get into a lander and get back to HQ in time, he just sat there during his turn for like five minutes before disconnecting. Still gave me the win though. :lol

Sounds more like you suck, sorry :p

Truth be told you can almost always get out of these situations.  Mechs are awesome for a cheap sacrificial counter.

I just felt that if you strip the online and forget the unnecessary change of art-style (both which I didn't care for), you'll end up with a game that features less content and gameplay updates than its predecessor. I thought both were stellar mind you, but when put head to head, that's how I feel about DoR.

I didn't mind the 2x character roster in DS because in a game of this nature, it was nice to have more variety since every CO had unique unit stats and special powers.

Speaking of CO powers, I just read a review stating that CO powers were present in some form in DoR. I finished the SP campaign but I can't recall how they were implemented, someone remind me please.

That was the biggest/best change! Your CO could be planted in any unit to turn it into a leader unit with bonus stats, and the CO power had an area of effect around that unit that widened as it powered up.

"CO powers are also used differently, in that you have to load your CO onto a unit and drive them around on the map, killing nearby units until their CO powers have fully charged up. Most CO powers are fairly small-scale compared to those in previous Advance Wars games, as well, making Days of Ruin much more about pure strategy than relying on a lucky CO power to win a game for you."

Did... did you just ignore the whole "load a CO into a vehicle" gameplay? lol
