second coin was easy since they showed you the the exit point on the next screen.  The trick was finding out where the entrance was.

Going to start world 8 tomorrow, really liking this game except for the occasional waggle gimmick stage and music.  It's not difficult like they were saying prerelease, though.  I'm guessing World 9 is the killer.

uggghhhhh 7-mid castle fucking sucks.  This game is awesome until they go waggle crazy on you.  Like, this game is has been super easy and I got 99 lives just by playing, yet when I get to these waggle garbage sections I die a bunch.  Why would waggle be pick up enemy AND move the platform!?

it's even just a pain to play these sections.  apparently I hold controllers tilted to the left since just stepping on the platform has it fly to the left of the screen.  I have to play like fucking Frankenstein's monster.

In order to pick up the bombs you have to jump on them anyway, which deactivates the platform.  Didn't have a problem with that section and kinda enjoyed the bullet bill/bombomb barrage.

It ain't no big deal.  The only waggle parts that bothered me were the one or two levels where you controlled a moving platform with it.  I actually liked it for the screw jump or whatever - I went back to play the original DS version and found myself shaking the entire DS  :-\

yeah, the waggle spin that's part of Mario's main moveset is fine.  Even picking up enemies with 1+waggle isn't that bad.  The stage that have platforms and objects controlled with waggle are absolutely awful.  At World 7 there have been maybe 4-5 of them in the game ranging from "this is distinguished mentally-challenged" to "this is distinguished mentally-challenged and I hate this".  One of the 7 stages has platforms that move left or right depending on where you tilt.  The best part is that if you tilt at a spin past a turtle's, the platform moves, Mario does a fucking spin jump and flies off the platform.

Uh swaggaz, you do know you don't have to pick up turtle shells and bomb-ombs with the waggle+1, right?  You just run into those to pick them up.

uh, no shit you can pick them up.  But the game puts a fucking ice flower power up during that section.  Frozen enemy requires waggle+1.

sounds like someone isn't good at this game  :-*

no dude, ya can't even joke about that shit.  Up to world 8 and the only levels I die on are the waggle ones.  That isn't an exaggeration.  I wish I could find stats to back it up, because it's ridiculous.  The only stages where Mario has a hat are the waggle ones.  Rest of the time I have 99 legit lives; not the wimp lives people get by farming a koopa shell early on.  They're just poorly designed levels to use the waggle gimmick.  As I've said, the only bad parts of this game are the waggle stages and the music.  Everything else is ace.

I mean, I try playing the game and it fucks up because the waggle sucks shit in those levels.

Got through worlds 1 to 8 :rock

Awesome game sans waggle stage and music.  Never was difficult, but I'm on World 9, so maybe this is where it is supposed to get hard.

Also, I wish the style in the credits was used throughout the entire game.

suck a FUCK, the propellor suit is the best fucking power-up in the game.  So goddamn awesome.

if you hate platformers and suck at the game, then yes.

the penguin suit is undeniably the best power up in the game, although you could make an argument for mini-mario. check it: with penguin you make can new platforms by freezing enemies, easily dispatch enemies through sliding or through freezing them (allowing you to do the fun stuff, the platforming), you can skim on water, your traction is better on ice. the only thing cool about the propeller suit is that you look like you're wearing a dunce cap.  :dur the hat sucks balls b/c it breaks the game and allows you to float right on by the best parts of the game. people who liked the raccoon suit and the NSMBds power up, i'm calling you out too.

i love this game to death, though. altho seriously, fuck that shake +1 button crap. unlike swaggaz i love the tilting mechanics that add to the level design, but the multiple uses nintendo assigned to one button (THE WAGGLE BUTTON) is just straight up bad design. with one misplaced shake you can pick up items you didn't mean to, suicide leap off of yoshi, propeller hat your way to your doom, or leap to your death from one of the tilting levels. this game is a 10/10 wrapped in pretty mediocre audio/visuals and some nintendo (read: bone-headed) decisions that leave you scratching your head (no online, no level editor officially, no ability to save replays, only waggle option). so i can understand the 8s to 9s the game is getting and its still the best 2d mario i've ever played.

and it just happened again, this time it wiped my 40 something life count down to 8, i know i quicksaved, they must wipe out all your quick saves if you shut down suddenly

yeah, that has to be it, im right back after the first castle

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

edit:  all they had to do to avoid shit like this is put in a pop up making sure you want to shut down, especially with the button being so close to the dpad and having games where you have to hold the controller sideways :maf

Penguin suit is the best suit in the game.  In addition to having ice flower powers and the slide, you get a lot more control on ice and in water.  Propeller suit is awesome, too, and I don't think it's really overpowered since it shoots you straight up.  If you compare it to the cape or leaf in past games, it may seem a bit cheap, but w/e.  Actually, the only thing I dislike is that a lot of the stage aren't designed by taking it into consideration.  SMB3 and World had hidden section in the sky you could fly up to.  I guess it's because of the co-op and keeping everything on one screen.  And mini-mushroom is still lame.

it served no strategic, platforming purpose though.  worst mario power-up ever

my thumbs are so sore and tender from playing this with the horizontal remote setup, stupid style over functionality 90 degree edged d pad

i switched to the nunchuk and oh my god instant relief, it works really well too, just takes five minutes and its second nature, and last but not least no random accidental shut downs and loss of progress

well i've finished world 8 and got the extra stuff but i really have no motivation to bother with it so i guess i'm done with the game... my opinion really doesn't change,it's mario so of course there is fun to be had but ultimately there is really no reason to pick this over super mario world or super mario bros 3 unless you really love waggle gimmick or dark levels

why are you on everyone's ass defending this game.

Yes, we get that it's fun, but that doesn't automatically make it BEST GAME EVER.  Lots of games are fun!  People can dislike it or rate it lower than other games while still admitting it to be a fun experience.

I don't have a problem with saying "oh I don't like it as much as blahblah," that's completely fine.  I'll say it as well: I DON'T like it as much as SMW or Galaxy.  But to say shit like this:

Quote
there is really no reason to pick this over super mario world or super mario bros 3

is just fucking stupid.  Really?  There's no reason at all to buy a game that stands out as one of the best in the series, even if some people don't like it as much as the "heralded two?"  It's bullshit logic.

I can give you plenty of reasons to pick this game up, and yes, over SMW or SMB3.  MULTIPLAYER is the obvious fucking one.

oh it's not a matter of heralded two! i said it in another thread,it uses old super mario music,it uses old super mario gimmick (grates and ghost house's from super mario world, airship level from super mario bros 3... a level where you get chased by a giant fish... the koopa bro) and everytime it tries something new it's a boring level (the raft one where you stop everytime there are 5 enemies on it... the dark one where you control the flashlight with the waggle control) that is why i say there is no reason to pick this over the classic mario and why i can't call it "one of the best of the series" really... i think of this game in the same way i think of megaman power up! you could call the game "potpourri mario bros" and it would have been a more honest name... there was a time when a mario game could take place inside a giant robot and have as a boss the three little pigs and this without need to reuse any music, boss or gameplay mechanic

i do agree that multiplayer is lot of fun but i can play local only on rare occasion so it doesn't do much for me  :-\

You don't think 9-7 is hard? This level sucks. It would be easy except for the fact that every fucking pipe is half an inch taller than you can clear with a stand-still jump, and there's barely any room to build up a head of steam.

Also it looks like all the theories on profile stars on GameFAQs are wrong. I had 3 profile stars when I had nothing left to do but get the third coin in 9-7. I had already beaten the stage, and done absolutely everything in worlds 1-8. I got that third coin and got not one, but two stars on my profile.

Man, just did the mid-castle of world 7 and it was the first time waggle controls really bothered me.  The post-checkpoint star where you are on the elevator moves left/right on your tilt with all the little bombas and you need to grab one and place it 'right' next to the block and then get in there.  Doing all that while also trying to KEEP THE CONTROLLER PERFECTLY LEVEL so it didn't swing left/right was VERY HARD FOR ME.  First time I got the Luigi box :(
