In general I make a point of only getting into stuff after it has become passe and I've become too old for it, so with a new decade starting soon, my turning 30 in a couple years, and probably some new, even more awful class of people and music coming to replace hipsters and indie rock, now seems as good a time as any.  Uh, I like Arcade Fire and Radiohead, and in general I'd prefer stuff with actual musicality to it.  I want prog rock without the dumb things about prog rock, basically.

I actually had Glenn Beckistas in mind when I typed the bit about what is coming to replace indie rock.  Muse will be the bridge between generations, I guess.

Yeah, Grizzly Bear was definitely on my list, especially since I associate them with a girl I used to have a crush on  :link

I like the Deerhoof track, but maybe not enough to go out and buy the record.  was really digging the Helios track for the first couple minutes or so, but was hoping they'd do more with it.

If you were hoping it would suddenly orgasm into loud distorted guitars, check out Mono, Godspeed You Black Emperor, or Mogwai

loud distorted guitars aren't necessarily my thing, though I keep meaning to check out GYBE.  but I was hoping it would orgasm into something or another.  or at least ... uh, guess I should keep with the sexual metaphor, um, um ... change positions?

gotcha.  Check out the album.  That song is one of my faves but the other tracks are longer and have more parts.  It's nice stuff.

Thought Tortoise might be up your alley as far as "prog without prog" goes.  The album that song is on is considered the one of the best post-rock albums of all time. I chose kind of a unrepresentative song, now that I think about it.

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone.  I have some stuff I need to do but I'll listen to the rest later.
