My greatest drunk idea EVER. Mad Men SERIES FINALE IDEA
« on: November 09, 2009, 04:59:36 AM »
IDEA: Mad Men SERIES FINALE.

Don is on a plane across the country. Suddenly the plane crashes. We're led to believe that Don has died, but he crawl from teh wreckage to reveal..... a hole in the sky. Cut to the chase: Mad Men is a SIMULATION of the 1960's run by a conservative, doomsday group far in the post-apocalyptic future. Bert Cooper is the scientist who headed up the project until he went rogue and inserted himself into the simulation in order to lead the denizens out Sterling Cooper (An anagram for SCIENCE TEAM EVANGELICAL RESCUE LIVING IN NEW GERUSALEM) out of the simluation and back into a harsh wasteland which needs their creativity, resoruceful minds and knowledge of 'The Old World' in order to rehabilitate the devestated world. Don & Peggy are the new Adam and Eve.

A- That's your theory about everything

B- Are you distinguished mentally-challenged?

C- How is that even possible?

D- Ayn Rand was a crazy ass, emotionally damaged bitch queen who wrote unreadable books for people who think that they're oh-so-smart-and-no-one-understands-them when they're really just cranky loners who can't make a friend.

Mad Men is a giant metaphor for objectivism.  Objectivism is a giant metaphor for lonely bitter people playing make-believe.

This brings to mind the greatest quote concerning Atlas Shrugged/Randroids ever...

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

By the time I was 14 i had read almost everything by Charles Dickens.  Given the delta between the quality of Dickens and Rand, i would expect Atlas Shrugged to be readable by any 9 year old.

But most nine year olds have learned how to get along with others and share, so they'd stop reading it.

FoC takes us to the movies:

The Matrix - "Sci-fi Rand/Objectivism metaphor at its purest!"

Shawshank Redemption - "Might as well have called it Rand/Objectivism Metaphor - The Movie!"

Finding Nemo - "When I took one glimpse at that pristine underwater CGI, I knew I was looking at one of the best Rand/Objectivism metaphors around!"

Seeing how everything is a metaphor for objectivism, it's all the same show.

With that out of the way, let's ignore the Randian-speak and talk about the awesomeness of Mad Men.

Charles Dickens was cribbing directly from Ayn Rand for his entire career; Great Expectations was basically a giant Rand/objectivism Metaphor.

I was disappointed they left the

Sal issue unresolved.  I was totally hoping they'd go find him and pull him out of whatever shithole he's working at now, but I guess that wouldn't really make sense.  The cigarette company came with them, and that asshole too... plus Don's a real dick.  All I know is they have to bring him back into the fold somehow, right?  They can't leave that hanging.

No need for spoilers, I'm assuming that if you're going to brave this thread, you're caught up.

I figure that bringing Sal back immediately would have been too easy and too unrealistic. I figure that Don will make contact with Sal next season.

She lost weight for her wedding, maybe that had something to do with it.

yeah, I also hope that they bring back Sal and keep Joan working.  It looked like Sal's marriage was getting worse and that Joan would probably get really bored with being a housewife so who knows how next season is going to be?

BTW if there was ever a scene that deserved NEEDED a gif, it was when they saluted Joan's ass.

And I think Don's dual identity is essential to the time period. Though, that may be the new journalism I've been reading making me think that.
