I don't see the tech working as well as a wiimote and yeah, the consumers are going to think of it as a copycat.
The Sony diddle stick is going to be the copycat. I think Natal has a unique gimmick on it's own.
The difference is that you can have meaningful input with the Sony Wand.
The Natal is pretty limited to what you can input. Honestly I think it would have best been reserved to only navigate menus.
The PSEye already has a 5-mic array built-in and can do up to 120fps recording, so aside from the IR sensor in the Natal, it has no advantage.
Sony has had more success marketing new peripherals late in a console's life. See the Buzz buzzers, the Eyetoy games, Singstar microphones or whatever else. MS has been the copycat with Lips, their shitty camera that bombed and Scene-It which didn't even have a constant voice-over and is now multiplatform.
Also, the Sony stick corrects a fatal flaw in the Wiimote design. The ball allows it to be picked up at virtually any angle, as opposed to the need to point it at the bar.
wow...
So 09's holiday season was disappointing in terms of number of exclusives to a lot of xfans, and it seems like it'll only get worse; '10 holidays has been officially ruined.
Oh, it'll only get worse. Do a search on how many Natal projects are out there that MS is helping along and you'll be scared. It's going to be a very gimmicky 2010.
Fortunately the early half of 2010 is chock full of actual good games that got bumped from '09.
Yeah, Bioshock 2. Fallout: New Vegas, Criterion's new NFS, DDR PS3 (I think), God of War III, BF:BC2, Guitar Hero PSP, MG Rizing, etc. It'll be a better year in 2010 with a laughable backlog.
