The PC version of stealthy openworld World War II game The Saboteur does not work with ATI graphics cards. At all.

Official game forums are awash with complaints (spotted by Kotaku), so much so that digital distributor Direct2Drive now carries a warning for all prospective buyers.

EA is apparently "digging into the issue" and has found a workaround to enable The Saboteur to run while a proper fix is found.

This, not ideally, involves turning multiple CPU support off. To find out how this is done check The Saboteur "ATI Graphic Issues" forum post.

Who will fix it as the company that made this game is no more?

It got shuffled to EA Montreal or something. Theres also some Pandemic people at EA LA...

After Crackdown, Saints Row 1&2, Mercenaries 2, and a good portion of GTA, I think you and I tend to be pretty close to the same opinion on open world games, so please elaborate.

I'm afraid after seeing Inglourious Basterds, anything about a guerrilla force in Nazi-occupied France is just going to seem like utter shit.

Can you kill someone with a baguette? What about eclairs?

...Most importantly, is there a difference between killing someone with a baguette and an eclair?

Blerg, this game not so good

It's not great but the overall is better than the sum of the parts. Good may be stretching it a little but then it's not bad.

The story is so fucking terrible, and the voices make it offensive. For the first 1 hour its funny because they're so bad, and as one review said it's like a bad episode of Allo Allo. But then they get serious and I just want to skip them instantly now.

Mid mission checkpoints are totally at the wrong point, they'll often put you in an open room filled with guards. The shooting is fucking shithouse, to the point where I just run and melee people. Sneaking is a better option because you wont have to deal with people and the sneak skills are at least useful.

If you're seen, you may as well restart because it's fucking ON if you get caught and the whole Nazi army is after you. Then if you run or get far enough away they all stop instantly. The best are the Guestapo officers who are TRAINED to see through your disguises instantly. You can stealth kill a guy, steal his clothes and leave the body in the open and no one will care.

There is literally 1000000000000 things on the map to do. Some of them are just scenic points you climb to, but if you're obsessive compulsive and Red Faction didn't have enough to do you may like this.

THE FUCKING MAP. It takes THREE BUTTON PRESSES to get to a zoomable map. IN 2009. At least it has waypoints.

If you took the most average parts of Hitman, GTA, Red Faction and Assasins Creed and made a game you'd have this. I dont know what is compelling me to play this, probably the setting and using explosives on a nazi tower and seeing it explode is sort of fun. If I could just blow up stuff and not have as many guards chase me it would be more fun.

Thanks for the review. Sadly, I'm going to avoid this even if I find it on sale now. The comment you made about taking the most mediocre bits of those other games... it has robbed me of my will to play it entirely.

It's not terrible, and if it was $20 it's some mindless fun. It's just unfocused, no section of the game is really great that makes you want to keep playing. Reminds me a lot of Just Cause if you took out the stunts. There's really no reason for this to be an open world game.

Yeah, but there's so much GOOD stuff out there, I'm hard-pressed to spend time on a game that's "not terrible." Esp. with my near-OCD tendencies! I'm still half-tempted to put Disney's Bolt back in to get the last couple of 'cheevs there. :-/

After the original Mercenaries title, Pandemic shot up to one of my favorite developers. It just took one title to see how they adapted one of my favorite formulas to apply to a whole new setting, and made changes that fit the context so well. I'm easy to win over; just one game formed my opinion of the company as a whole.

Then I played Destroy All Humans, and a hard time believing that it was the same company. The engine looked similar, but with all the opportunities wasted for innovation, and the unbalanced gameplay (I was horribly bored most of the time, and suddenly the difficulty spiked once I hit the Area 51 region). Strike one.

With the announcement of Mercs 2, I was so hopeful that it would be a worthy sequel, but it was riddled with bugs and broken gameplay. Strike two? I guess so. I was really saddened by how badly they messed up what should have been a no-brainer.

It's not fair to count a demo, but Middle Earth: Conquest that Lord of the Rings Battlefront game was also a big sign that the studio didn't have a lot of juice. Maybe Mercs was a one-hit wonder.

I really wanted to get the Saboteur, but I'm not going to even consider it until it's around the $10 mark.  Something tells me I probably won't care by then.

How was Velvet Assassin in comparison?  It's $20 now.

Velvet Assassin would be the worst use of $20 ever.

Did they fix the ATI problems yet?

I'm thinking this will be me.  Shame, because it seems to have had some good ideas.

It does, but they're just poorly implemented. The setting is fantastic but it rarely does anything exciting with it. Except for the boss fight inside a zepplin thats on fire.

Now, see, with Brutal Legend you can SUMMON a flaming zeppelin into any boss fight you like.

That's a good point - there's no game breaking bugs or glitches, just the usual you'd expect from an open world game.

The one level where you have to get to the mausoleum, I took a guy down in the open and stole his clothes and no one ever noticed. That's my sole data point for not noticing bodies, since 99% of the time I dont kill anyone because the alarms go off so quickly.

The style and atmosphere are killed to me by the horrible voices. It just ruins the game. Plus everything Sean says is either :drake or :maf , there's no in between.

:lol

But there are depths to smugness. You can either be Han Solo or Howard Trump or Ivan Drago. Or Errol Flynn!

One thing I've enjoyed about The Force Unleashed is the depth of Starkiller's character. There's quite a range of emotion, including vulnerability and sadness in Witwer's portrayal, particularly considering he's a villain who goes around killing the last traces of nobility in the galaxy.

If Saboteur has no bugs, it's already a better game than Mercs 2, so I'm interested again.
