I'm still a bit miffed that they took out the open-world aspect, but it does look pretty good.

Edit: Also miffed about the PC version getting axed. :maf

I'm starting to get excited for this one when I originally wasn't because I've always felt Max Payne was incredibly over-rated.

Seems like a good action version of Silent Hill which is especially needed since Silent Hill stopped being good a long time ago.

This has been consoleified and maintstreamed it seems.

Still would like to play, but its nowhere near as exciting and ambitious as it was.

You mean its been potentially made into something somebody would actually like to play.

Potentially made into something someone with ADD would like yeah.

I know. Max Payne was such a deep and nuanced experience, this won't be able to compete by comparison.

Looks great, but I'm concerned by the poor performance (so much tearing).  Hopefully they fix that.

What exactly have they've shown in the past that would lead you to this conclusion?  Most of the early footage seemed like tech demos and the like.  It's finally starting to look like an actual GAME.  It still seems more ambitious than their past work on Max Payne, which was extremely linear and limited confined corridors.  If you enjoyed their previous work I can't understand how you'd find fault here.

Remedy shelved the PC version back during the summer and said it would be up to Microsoft whether the PC version ever got finished. MS has said nothing at all since then about doing that.

Ah, well, that's why PC gamers are taking such a negative stance against this game then.  :\

You mean to tell me that some writer killed all my deputies?!111

great, this kind of corny talk is gonna be the whole game...the aleins are attacking alan waek and he's a pretty cool guy so he kills them and doesn't afraid of anything, but the police won't believe him because after all who would believe a story about aliens and spirits kekekeke!

frame rate is in the 20s, there was no gameplay in that section, horrible tearing, big meh.

it looks even more linear than resident evil. dead space: twin peaks is more apt

edit: actually, it looks like alone in the dark made by someone competent. it's settled, the new name is alone in the dark: twin peaks

I'd settle for that, since Dead Space is way better than Resident Evil anyway.

Max Payne games are good because the action/shooting is incredible.

I'm still looking forward to Alan Wake, but of what's been shown, it looks kinda dull.  The writing is still entertaining because it's so hammy; the gameplay seems like a lot of in-game cutscene/adventure game stuff that's hard to get a read of from the videos shown.  The shooting from back at E3 seemed fairly one-note with "light enemy > shoot enemy".  And for a game that should look good, it has a lot of performance problems (can all get taken care of by release).

I haven't watched the videos because I don't really care but I'm definitely looking forward to this.  It wasn't even just the gameplay in Max Payne 1 & 2 that made them great, it was the atmosphere.  Especially in MPII they did a great job at creating locations oozing with personality.  That's exactly what a horror game needs.

Not only that but on some Intel Developers Forum they showcased Alan Wake running on some octo-core Intel CPU boasting how powerful it is.

And now it's cancelled on the PC :rofl

So what you're saying is that the PC couldn't handle this game

Is the game going to be as linear as it looks in that police chase video? It pretty much looked like there was one corridor in the forest that the character could run through.

yes the game abandoned the sandbox world.

I don't get the bitching.  Framerate and tearing issues like that would definitely be fixed for release but otherwise, it looks beautiful.  You can tell they spent a lot of time polishing every little detail and set up the levels as setpieces.  Even if it doesn't deliver on all of the promises, nobody can doubt that it's going to be an awesome game.

Yeah but they're also the graphical equivalent of hobo poop stains.

This clip has some drops and tearing at very specific, scripted, spots so it's obvious that they're not going to just let it go like that after the past few years of using this game as a tech demo to justify new, now obsolete, video cards and quad core processors.  They're not going to just let the 360 gag on the nicest parts of the game.  I just won't believe it until I see it happening.
