OK, a friend recommended that I see this on the big screen, and I can honestly say I'm very happy that I saw this on the big screen with an excellent sound system. Emmerich never does SFX small, and this movie, the ONLY thing it has going for it is the SFX. Disaster porn? This movie is like the Peter fucking North money shot for most of its length.

Characters were useless, unbelievable, standard Hollywood cutouts. The setup was about as well-reasoned and thoughtful as can be expected of a movie rushing to get its pants off and start giving logic, physics, and reality the solid fucking it needs. I've never cared less about the entire fate of humanity than as it was depicted in this movie, but I sure loved the roller coaster ride. A hi-def 40" would not contain the full fury of the SFX and I'd have been forced to pay more attention the stuff that's wrong with it. Which is everything else.
