While gamers may have to wait a little longer before getting their hands on Airtight Games‘ high flying third person shooter Dark Void, Capcom is already hard at work getting it in a theater near you. Capcom has reached an agreement with Reliance BIG Entertainment and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment to turn the rocketeer-inspired game into a “sci-fi action franchise and potential starring vehicle for Pitt.”

If Pitt does indeed plan to star in the title role, it would help add creditability to idea of a video game becoming more than a low budget cash in for studios.  Since a film adaption probably wont materialize until 2011 at earliest, you may want to check out Dark Void when it crashes onto PCs, PlayStation 3’s and Xbox 360’s everywhere on January 19, 2010 in North America and January 22, 2010 in Europe.

Press Release:

Los Angeles, CA (November 19, 2009) – Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment, under its Creative Partnership with Reliance BIG Entertainment, and Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, have come to terms on the film rights relating to Dark Void™, a new property from Capcom. The theatrical version of the Dark Void game is being developed as a sci-fi action franchise and potential starring vehicle for Pitt.

Capcom will release Dark Void on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and PC in North America on January 19, 2010 and across Europe on January 22, 2010.

Dark Void is an adrenaline-fuelled blend of aerial and ground-pounding combat which centers on Will, a pilot who crash lands in the Bermuda Triangle following a routine mission. Will wakes up to find himself in “The Void,” an alternate world resembling a primitive earth where aliens with superior technology are planning to take over civilization. Together with a faction of humans who have disappeared into the Void, Will takes on the alien race using their own advanced technology including a high-powered jet pack to defeat them and keep order in the civilized world.

Reliance BIG Entertainment, the flagship media and entertainment arm of Indian conglomerate, Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (R-ADAG), first introduced its innovative development/production financing deal, termed a Creative Partnership, with Plan B Entertainment at the Cannes Film Festival 2008.

Reliance BIG Entertainment’s Chairman Amit Khanna commented, ‘”We are delighted that our Creative Partnership with Plan B has led to this agreement to develop the Dark Void motion picture based on Dark Void along with Capcom and we look forward to future projects from them.”

“As a game, Dark Void was developed with a wide-screen mentality – a world full of adventure presented in cinematic scope and scale,” said Germaine Gioia, senior vice president, licensing, Capcom Entertainment. “Plan B recognized the potential of our newest property and are as excited about bringing Dark Void to life in cinemas as Capcom is to bring the interactive experience to home theaters.”

The deal was brokered by CAA on behalf of Reliance BIG Entertainment and Plan B, and by UTA on behalf of Capcom. Plan B was additionally represented in the deal by Jon Liebman and Cynthia Pett-Dante at Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

This seems kinda risky for Capcom. What if Dark Void bombs?

I had this confused with Dark Sector and I was wondering why anyone would waste more time on a such a mediocre game.

this isn't the next best thing.  It has Telsa, but not an actor helping Nazi to conquer America with jetpack troops.
