So I'm guessing if you went through the entire series and took note of all the times smokey has stopped short of killing someone, he was considering using them to kill Jacob. This includes Locke and Ekco, although it also means he was considering Juliet at some point :/

It also seems like Jacob knows he has a job to do but nevertheless feels some compassion for the MiB. If we're trusting what the guy said to kate last episode, it seems he may have wound up as the big bad wolf after going through 'growing pains'.

hmmmm. show is getting kind of magical, not sure if I like that.

I think 'then he'll step in' was a very good point Ricardus made in this episode. How's anyone supposed to prove themself if a giant cloud comes and kills everyone within minutes. The only people who get spared are the ones smokey is trying to use for the loophole because he feels like they have an exploitable set of emotions.

He brings suckers to the island and makes them play Job in some goofball game he's playing with the MiB. By his own admission, they all die. So he just brings more. Dude is a serial killer. He's going to need a pretty noble end to justify those means.

I think Sawyer has the right idea. Fuck them both, let them rot on the island.

I think that's the whole basis and has been for quite some time.

Since the beginning where they showed that everyone on there has a dark past but they're not bad people, etc. It's always been showing that nothing is black and white. Jacob is supposed to be good and man in black is supposed to be bad. But it's not always that easy or clear cut. Jacob is just as big of a manipulator and he ruins just as many lives. They both just go about it in different ways. Man in black straight up lies to manipulate.

I liked how he told Richard stab him in the heart with this. if he speaks, it's already too late. I was like daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. little Jap man was so unoriginal.

So clever

I don't mind the writing. It's never really been spectacular. Watching the first couple of seasons with my friends we played the game of guessing what the character would say. Most of it is pretty damn predictable. It's the few points where they nail atmosphere, character development, mythology and twists that make the show for me. And last night they nailed it for me. Amazing episode.

And who really hadn't pondered the God path with this show? Especially since we discovered Jacob was real.

This show never started out on that path, and has always maintained a pseudo-science theme. There was a mystical element to the show, but within the past season it has nose dived into Carnivale on an island. It's pretty distinguished mentally-challenged too.

At least Ron Moore had the decency to embed Battlestar Galactica with all his religious hocus pocus from day one.

... what character development occurred last night, other than making Jacob from unlikeable to completely unlikeable?

What a sad end for this show, but I feel pretty confident that this will devolve into the train wreck I wanted to see.

The only thing I didn't like was the need to explain how the statue was smashed and how they explained it. They show the ship crashing into its face which would mean the island would almost be submersed. I don't know

I dunno, man. It always seemed to be a battle on whether there was a scientific explanation or if it was in fact mystical. That fits with the whole man of science, man of faith theme the show has been playing for so long. Some things have had scientific explanations, but most everything has really been pushed by the mystical shit. No big questions in the show have ever had a scientific explanation.

I don't think it's from anywhere. But in the first season when they see the ship someone asks "How did a ship like this get so far on land?" or something like that.

And I don't mind the simple explanation of a big wave. It's the science Will wants! SEE WILL! THEY'RE LISTENING TO YOU!

But really, I didn't expect it to be anything spectacular.
