I thought last weeks episode was A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sarcasm?

I thought it was kind of corny and anti-climatic myself, and I like Lost!

its awesome how, in their final moments, 24 and Lost are going in completely different directions

Lost is completely drowning in it's own mythos. Crap

24 is breaking free of it's chains and being completely awesome.

I also like how they managed to explain one of the series' most enduring mysteries (Adam & Eve) in the most boring, pathetic way possible.

It'd be like explaining the Smoke monster as just some guy! Wait. Fuuu.

When they get around to explaining who got shot in that Outrigger it'll probably just be like "Steve & Joe, two outrigging enthusiasts!".

Man. Why all that great set up for such a lousy reveal? Also, why all this focus on Jacob and some guy? Whatever happened to the Dharma Intiative? We still don't know fuck all about it.

it was just a research corporation trying to harness the magnetic properties of the island for potential profit

that's as much explanation as you're ever gonna get, very doubtful they'll touch on it in the 3 1/2 hours left in the series

I just really don't understand why. They were telling a really, really good story. And then all of a sudden they stopped telling that story and started telling a worse story. I don't get that impulse or why someone okay'ed it or whatever. It'd be like if Breaking Bad suddenly turned into a show about Walt trying to run a used car lot.

this explains a lot

Quote
Do you think some fans get disappointed when they find out that everything wasn't plotted out from the first episode?
Cuse: I think the answer is, once we announced the end date, I think a lot of those concerns went away. I can't imagine that there are many authors that are able to, basically, conceive something entirely beforehand. We feel strongly that the show would be worse if we were just marching forward. The creative process is not like a situation where you get struck by a single lightning bolt. You have ongoing discoveries and there's ongoing creative revelations. Yes, it's really helpful to be marching toward a specific destination, but, along the way, you must allow yourself room for your ideas to blossom, take root, and grow. I think that's how we approached the show: We had a rough idea of certain things, a specific idea about other things. Over six years, everything got a lot richer and fuller because we spent all that time thinking about the show and thinking about how to make the show better.

As opposed to someone like George Lucas who, today, claims he knew the entire arc of Star Wars when he was filming the first movie. Even his old interviews prove that's not true.
Lindelof: Totally. The other thing is, we never had the hubris or the audacity to try and plot out too far in advance, because we didn't even know if the viewers were going to want another season of Lost. Just to say in season three that we'll end the show after season six, then people decide they hated the show in season four, there wouldn't have even have been a season five. You have to focus on what's in front of you. If J.K. Rowling was only thinking about the seventh Harry Potter book when she was writing the third one, she wouldn't have been able to write the third one. You kind of have to say, "Hey, we have a cool idea for this character named Jacob and his nemesis, the Man in Black. But let's not put that idea in front of the audience until we're really ready to start telling that chapter of the story. We'll allude to it, because we have it in mind. In the meantime, this chapter of the story is that the island is moving through time and that's what the characters are dealing with right now. If you throw Jacob and the Man in Black into that story, people's heads are going to explode.

How about the pregnancy shit?

I'm not really disappointed though.  I mean, what were you guys really expecting?  Sirens should have been blaring when there was still filler BS in the final season and TONS of shit to answer.  They're doing it as fast as they can and as conveniently as they can.  I always figured it would boil down to complete mythos and faith and "it just happens" stuff.  The pseudo science answers haven't really been big for like 3 seasons.  When they started talking about lists and being chosen and Jacon you guys didn't see some cheesy shit coming your way?  Meh.  Set your expectations low, people.

I personally would rather have had them be super vague about 99% of the shit and never answer it.  I was just happy that they didn't completely forget about the black and white rocks from season 1.  That shit drove me insane for the last 4 years (started with season 2).  I preferred when the mythos was a backdrop for other events and their eventual escape.  I wish it would have stayed that way and left most of the mythos unanswered.

The thing is, I seem to remember reading interviews with those guys basically pulling a Lucas and telling everyone that they had the whole story planned out from day 1 and now it seems they're backing off of that.  Of course I assumed they were full of shit when they said it, but reading that little quip from Lindelof and Cuse kind of rubs me the wrong way for some reason.

I came to the conclusion around season 3 that Lost was only going to end in two ways - either as one of the most brilliant shows of all time or as a complete clusterfuck.  Looks like clusterfuck wins with the TKO.

By the way, Battlestar Galactica is nowhere near the train wreck this show is quickly becoming. Folks were upset with the spiritual stuff, despite the fact that all the spiritual hocus pocus is what Ron Moore was known for and that it had been ingrained into the show from the beginning. Furthermore, the bullpen resolved most of the lingering mysteries in a timely manner and didn't leave the show's mythos hanging. That's not the case here.

The pseudo science shit has been out the window for a while.  I'm just wondering what the hell people have been watching that they didn't expect answers like this with a handful of episodes left??  I mean, there haven't been many shows with huge ambition that didn't have a craptacular ending.  Most top tier shows still have shit endings.  I've just figured for a while that it was going to be a messy ending and I just enjoy the ride, poo and all.  It's about on par with what I expected.

The pseudo science shit has been out the window for a while.

No, it has not. Time travel and parallel universes have been a running theme this season. That's total bunk. I'm not saying there isn't an element of spiritual hocus pocus, but the fact of the matter is that its introduction didn't negate all the pseudo-science. Furthermore, it was introduced rather late in the game. It's a valid complaint.

And yeah, I don't think it's unfair for fans to demand answers to mysteries and pseudo-scientific explanations after following the show for five years. Stop making excuses for shitty writing.

... you expected pseudo science answers because of time travel and parallel universes?  That's when I knew shit would be off the walls.  Would you have really been happier if the cop out was that they were going to jump into another dimension to avoid the island or some shit?  People would be throwing the same complaints!  Shit has been bananas for a while.  I'm not making excuses, Will.  Learn to read.  I'm saying it's shit and the writing has been on the wall for a while.

I'm asking you what the hell you really expected?

Face it.  People were going to be disappointed no matter what because this shit has been insane for the last 3 years.  If you didn't know that at the beginning of the season you were on crack, dude.  They had so much different non-sensical shit to explain I really don't understand what people were expecting.  How did you not see the "God element" shit coming??

With two episodes left, that pretty much means we aren't going to find out shit. So, I'm just going to FINALLY lower my expectations for the ending of the show.

Uh yeah. Considering both of those are pseudo-science, I do not think it's illogical to make the assumption that the show's writers would explain lingering mysteries with pseudo-science.

Quote
I'm asking you what the hell you really expected?

Exactly what I just typed! Saying that people's expectations were off because the show is "bananas" is stupid. People expected pseudo-scientific explanations to pseudo-scientific mysteries. I think people would have even been okay with the introduction of spiritual hocus pocus, but it's only served to vaguely explain things that would have been easily explained with - wait for it - pseudo-science. This entire season has been nothing but deflection, with the bullpen vaguely answering some things in the most distinguished mentally-challenged manner and completely ignoring a lot of loose ends.

Last night's episode is pretty much evidence of that.

I'm saying people were stupid and naive to be so surprised by bullshit copout answers on the third to last episode with so much shit still remaining.  Your whole thing comes down to "I wanted to be pleased by pseudo science answers!"  That's really specific!  It's been clear for a while that there wasn't enough time to answer shit without huge jumps in logic.  I don't know why people are so fucking surprised.  It's been so convoluted for a while that any attempt at a detailed, logical explanation would be even more convoluted.  Especially with the way this show works.  Do people really expect the next 2 episodes to just bombard them with answers that aren't pure shit at this point?  REALLY?

no.  It's logical logical logical.  Has been for a while.  I can understand disappointment.  I really can.  But I can't understand the surprise that it's shit.  Every big answers so far has been pretty much a copout and a disappointment.  "Oh.  Well that was dumb" or it caused even more questions.  With a few episodes left there's no way to cover everything without it being borderline distinguished mentally-challenged.

This is basically the "you have to turn your brain off to enjoy this movie" argument, which is also dumb.

Bottom line, and I guess you agree, is that the show has sunk to a new low and has turned on its audience. Eel's quip that last night's episode resembled the kind of hackneyed writing that a weekday syndicated television show might tout was pretty accurate. Lost sucks, end of story.

And that's not the fault of the audience, that's the fault of the writers.

Again, when a show is competently written for many years, it is not the fault of the audience for maintaining high expectations. This is like, the worst argument ever.
Since the middle of season 5, I've seen the show this way...

It's like my friend who has always been in some sort of trouble but always managed to make it.  He has a ton of problems in his life.  Bad debts, arrest warrants, barely hanging onto a job.  And everyone knows that one day it's all just going to come down and turn to shit and it's going to happen really fast.  He loses his jobs, gets picked up, has creditors suing him and his wife leaves him.

I honestly expected it to fall apart sooner.  But I also assumed they would at least try to spread the BS out over this whole season.

Like I said, it's shit and I can admit that.  I just think people were naive and were not fucking paying attention to the direction the show was going in.  They hadn't answered shit and the answers given had been shit.  The season finale is going to be a 2 hour awesome shitfest.

I completely agree with the bolded.  I just can't understand all the dudes on GAF going "what the hell happened?!" and freaking out.  I saw it and for a while i was  :-\ but then I was  :lol and saying "yeah, about what I expected"

But I guess people were more hopeful that I was.

I won't lie.  I hoped they would have a decent answer.  I really did.  But I prepared myself for the worst.

I'm asking how people didn't see it coming.

Because the show has never been this bad or disrespected its audience to this degree. That's how!

I feel pretty confident that this will be one of those series we look back and wonder why the ending was so bad.

I guess.  But like I said with the answers.  They've been vague and shit.  Just like this.  They built it up to seem like so much more.  And still, how come it doesn't affect all births?  Not just ones conceived on the island.  People seem to be able to conceive regularly and everything is fine up until the birth.  And wasn't there some shit about preggers bitches needing shots or something?

Or the shit where they were afraid of infection and they were supposed to take shots and go out in the stupid ass suit and shit?  I know they explained the sickness as becoming evil or some shit but it doesn't fit with tons of shit that has been said throughout the series.

Like I said... shit answers.  People should have seen it coming.

I'm left to believe that everything on the show is complete nonsense.  And it's because even the characters who think they know what's going on have no idea.  They just have opinions.  That's what they're going to imply in the end.  That way anything that doesn't fit quite right is okay because it was just a theory as well.  No one will ever know.  cue xfiles music.  LOST

The end of LOST is starting to remind me of the end of BSG. "OMG THEY PUT GOD IN MY BSG! DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE!"

At least BSG had religion references from the beginning.

The problem with Lost is it isn't interesting outside of SECRETS so for 6 seasons the writers just kept cramming mystery after mystery in to keep people watching.  Trouble is there probably isn't a single explanation that can tie everything together like what a good crime novel would provide.  Poor fans.

I loved the drama between the characters and the characters themselves.

I guess you missed the whole "Man of Science, Man of Faith" angle from the beginning of LOST.

:lol

This is why I liked season 1 the best. It was just about a bunch of people trying to survive on an island.

That doesn't make it a full story about god. Just a rift between two ideologies.
