I liked the show better when it was Ben vs. Widmore than Jacob vs. MIB. They should have just stuck with that.

Agreed as well

And it does feel pointless because that thread hasn't been explained - in fact it was completely dropped. This season has been completely dominated by "Jacob vs MIB" with everyone else in between.

Lost died with Locke

That's like taking every mystery novel ever written and ripping out all but the last chapter because the rest of it is just pointless.

If it's a mystery novel filled with red hearings that take up three-fourths of the length and then at the end it throws out a completely new plot line, then yes.

Dharma and the Ben vs Charles arcs dominated S2-S4. S5 also was heavily dominated by Dharma. All that shit has been thrown out the window for S6, which instead decides to focus on warring gods or whatever.

oh jesus christ.  it actually has.  let's not do this again.

and yes, the last season has sucked compared to the rest.  but i just hate how people are all of a sudden acting like the whole series was a waste of time.  Fuck that.  It's been incredible.  I've never been more interested in a series and one has never made me more giddy when I think about the plot lines.  The fact that they *may* have screwed up the ending doesn't negate the 5 awesome years I've had with this show.

Walt was in an earlier episode. Of course, there wasn't an explanation on why Dharma wanted him. In fact, the more I think about it, the more the whole Dharma arc seemed like a waste of time. Lost boils down to two gods fighting it out, and what exactly did Dharma or the US military (S5) have to do with anything.

Bloodwake: and what explanation is that. The others wanted Jacob's candidates dead?

No. The Others' list is the list Jacob gave them to keep as their own earlier in the show. Obviously none of the candidates (other than Locke) was ever invited to be one of them. Jacob obviously did that on purpose, just as he obviously touched the candidates' lives off of the island. He wanted the candidates to be alone like him, and being an Other or a leader of one didn't accomplish this. I think Locke was crossed off the list BEFORE he died, when he started to lead the Others, because others depended on him at that point.

They had a finale event in New York:
Quote
Just got back from attending the New York Times Talk Live LOST event, having watched it in-theater.

It was like a 90 min class on screenwriting. I would highly recommend it to anyone who’s teaching scriptwriting to a high-school level class, as long as the student can get into LOST.

Jorge Garcia and Michael Emerson made a surprise appearance, which actually was a little touching.

Damon really played the funny man and Carlton the straight guy.

The interviewer was very intelligent and asked some great questions.

They showed classic clips to which Darlton commented on:

Jack and Locke arguing over “faith vs. science” and Locke asking Jack to push the button inside the Swan Hatch. They pointed out that it wasn’t so much that Locke didn’t have faith, he said he didn’t want to do it alone, and needed Jack, referencing the famous “live together, die alone” speech. They mentioned that the scene in the submarine is where they came full circle on Jack’s transformation because he was now the man of faith trying to get Sawyer to NOT do something, (fiddle with the bomb) and Sawyer was playing the role of the empiricist this time.

Desmond finally reaching Penny on the phone in the Constant, Sayid in the background. Talked about how ridiculous it was that his mind time traveled to 1997 to ensure Penny would call him in 2004, Faraday’s rat maze, etc. And how it was the hardest and longest episode for them to break. They wanted to reveal time travel in a personal way that involved endearing characters and lots of emotion. That’s why Desmond remarks to Faraday’s mathematical explanation of a Constant: “can it be a person?”

The Dharma scene where Hurley debates time travel rules with Miles, and finally stumps him. They anticipated the audience having the same sort of questions that Hurley did, and the scene pretty much already took place within the writer’s room.

Some *really* good questions from the audience: “why must there be a human presence on the island?” which they said they’ve never been asked before but couldn’t answer. One guy asked a question which seemed to startle Darlton, especially Damon, and they basically said “We don’t want to spoil the ending to the show” as their answer, which made me think the guy was *extremely* close in his guessing the global reveal. I’ll give you a hint: he asked if there was an allusion in people doubting the button-pushing in the hatch as a critical necessity, and the critical necessity of protecting the lightcave. There was a lot more to it, but that’s all I’m giving. Sorry.

CONFIRMED SPOILERS TO FOLLOW, BEWARE:

Walt in the finale, confirmed by Carlton, to which Damon seemed a little shocked
First 10 mins will be a huge Star Wars reference (Darlton didn’t like Damon saying this, but Damon said ‘but its ok to drop the Walt-bomb?!”)
We’ll learn more about Eloise Hawking and what exactly she was doing as a “timecop” with Desmond in both timelines
The characters will debate exactly what Widmore was doing back on the island
Look for a reference to the fateful scene where Desmond and Jack first met: “you’ve got to lift it up, brotha” (a fan asked this question to which Carlton said “you won’t be disappointed”
They showed a snippet from the finale, and it was EXACTLY word-for-word from those leaked script pages on the net: MIB, Ben, and Sawyer at the well, MIB talking about sinking the island, Ben frustrated that he thought he could be on the island, MIB saying Ben could get on a boat with him, them finding a dog’s tracks.

END SPOILERS

I’m not even gonna say “overall, it was great”. Because I was smiling and enjoying every minute of it. I’ll leave it here.

Namaste!

Well, that list was season 2

I think there's pretty much 3 points where they planned ahead and haters and lovers of the show have to accept this. After the pilot got picked up. After Season 2. And whatever point in Season 3 when they finalized the end date for the show. Some elements they inserted at earlier points without quite having an endgame plan (Walt) may have been abandoned, some were picked up and run with.
:patel

Why Lost-trolls revel in holding it to an impossible standard and then revel in nitpicking every single fucking thing I have no clue.

*shrug*

I always just see these kinds of things as pretty vague and open for argument and I assume they were done that way on purpose with no real answer.  Keep in mind, that's what I LOVE about the show.  Half of my fun with the show was discussing plot lines and ideas with fellow Lost lovers.  I'm of the belief that only a handful of things were actually ever planned out and carried through.  Everything else was just winging it and keeping it vague for viewer discussion.

i like how i'm a troll for pointing out flaws and inconsistencies and "mysteries" which were made out to be veryveryimportant for 4-5 seasons then unceremoniously dumped as unimportant

stringing your audience along for 5 years and then shrugging, knowing the diehards will defend it to the end and do the work of plugging plotholes or making excuses for your failings, that shows a great deal of contempt for your fan base

sort of like nintendo, and their fans

if you're calling people trolls for pointing out plot points which make no sense and directly contradict events which happened earlier, you need to learn what critical examination is, and learn to "deal" with that

I'm not even a diehard, but I alternate better enjoying how much seems to piss people off yet they keep watching, and genuinely po'd when they make complaints that aren't even legitimate.

From last page:
i think my favorite thing about this episode was jacob and mib's mom telling them she made it so they can never hurt each other, and then twenty minutes later jacob kills mib

Mom told him it's something "worse than death", on his way to killing him he say's "oh I'm not going to kill you brother" in previous episode about how much he hated Jacob, MiB talked about how he "stole his body". Don't like it, fine, but don't say it's a contradiction or plothole.

At one point Ben was one of the best characters on the show. When Charles was introduced I still couldn't trust Ben as a "good guy." For most of S6 he's been nothing more than a travel companion.

'drlinus' horror of an entire life's misplaced faith earned the the first real nuance and sadness of Ben's turmoil in the series. It chanced a 'redemption' from a place you remarked as difficult to accept (still couldn't trust ben as a good guy) His relapse last episode also created a tricky, difficult idea of reconciliation in the parallel worlds so his arc remains exciting outside of the usual 'ooh myserious' halting, leering patterns.

The previous seasons are undeniably good, but given this disappointing finale it's gonna be hard to defend the show for some time. I used to dismiss Lost trolls from friends/family, saying things would be sorted out in the last season, the writers were planning shit, etc. But the last two seasons kinda threw that out the window

Fanboys will always defend something. But as a more sane Lost fan I can't help but wonder about what could have been. Lost could wind up being seen as the new Dallas, if the finale is the disappointment I'm expecting

Hurley says goodbye to 'Lost'

Jorge Garcia writes about the popular series' end
By JORGE GARCIA

At 5 a.m. on April 24, I became unemployed.
I just wrapped my six-season run on "Lost." The job that went above and beyond anything I could have imagined was over.

When I auditioned for "Lost," I was just another out-of-work actor struggling to land a pilot. When I first went in to meet the producers, there wasn't any material for me, except a few sides they had for the character Sawyer.

I felt great about the audition; so great, in fact, that getting the part wasn't important because I knew I couldn't have done any better. Then I got the call that I was going to test, and that they were going to write scenes specifically for me. I remember noticing I was the only Hurley in the room waiting to test. I called my agent from the parking lot afterward and said, "I don't know what it meant but it felt like a good thing."

When I got hired I hadn't even seen the pilot script. All I knew was that it was a J.J. Abrams show and that it would shoot in Hawaii. I figured, if anything, I had just scored an extended Hawaiian vacation.

Moving to Hawaii was a dream come true. When I worked the magazine stand at Borders in Westwood, I remember seeing a picture of Kelsey Grammer in his Hawaiian home on the cover of Architectural Digest and thinking that having a home in Hawaii was a good benchmark for success. Not two months in my new apartment in L.A., I was trying to figure out what to pack for a show that I had no idea how long would last. Now six years later, I walk around my house trying to figure out what to pack from all of the stuff I have amassed in Hawaii over the show's run.

During the pilot and the first summer of shooting we bonded quickly as a cast. After all, not unlike the show's premise, we literally found ourselves on an island with one another. We'd go to each other's houses on the weekends and nights when we weren't shooting. When the shows started airing, we would usually gather at the house of whomever the show was going to feature that week to watch and congratulate each other.

We had no information about what was going on beyond what we read in the script each week. We knew we were making TV that was not like anything seen before and crossed our fingers hoping we would find an audience who liked what we were doing.

The series premiere brought in better numbers than we anticipated and I remember saying to the other actors the next day, "I hope you like it in Hawaii because we may be here for a while."

As the seasons progressed, moments of being recognized on the street grew exponentially. There was a time during season one when all I had to do was tie my hair back to become invisible. Obviously, that does nothing for me now; neither does wearing a hat and sunglasses. At times both Daniel Dae Kim and Terry O'Quinn remarked how they enjoyed disappearing when they were around me as I would be the only one getting recognized.

Hawaii has been a wonderful place to hide for six years. Sometimes I could almost convince myself that "Lost" was a just a little show I did with friends in the jungle. I always liked to think of us as the tinkers in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" until something would shake that fantasy and I'd be forced to recognize how huge the show was becoming, like getting nominated for a Golden Globe. J.J., always the consummate mensch, wanted my experience to be enjoyable and easy at the awards, so he gifted me my first custom-tailored tuxedo.

I think the time spent under the cast tent on set will be what I'll miss the most. We sang songs to Terry and Naveen's guitar playing, made valiant group efforts to complete a Friday edition of the New York Times crossword puzzle and played a lot of Scrabble.

My last day on "Lost" was also my longest: 20 hours. Without going into details, I can say the shoot was dangerous, physical and wet. But what could be more appropriate? How else could we end this epic show without an epic marathon night of shooting? At the end of it all we all remarked how we expected the end to be more emotional for us, but we were too tired to cry.

I'll admit I got a little teary with Matthew Fox. I thanked him for everything he taught me, including taking me on his trip to Japan to see Green Day that first summer of shooting. At the time, flying at the last minute to a foreign country was way out of my comfort zone, but then again nothing on "Lost" was ever in my comfort zone.

I stuck around after even after I wrapped to see the martini shot of the entire show. I could feel director Jack Bender's resistance to call "print" on that last take. In fact I'm pretty sure he asked for one more take to delay the inevitable.

I still don't think the end of it all has hit me yet. Maybe I'll feel it when the finale finally airs Sunday. Or maybe it will hit me when I board the plane at Honolulu Airport for the last time as a Hawaiian resident.

I have no clue what my next adventure is going to be, I just know this job is going to be a hard one to follow.

Didn't they already do that when Locke had to fix the donkey wheel? I think that's all you're getting.

If that's the case I will be raging shortly.
