They didn't create new sets of relationships, they put themselves in proximity to "reconnect" when they were ready. Again, it may not have been purgatory in the literal sense, but when the drive of the finale was that they needed to "let go" and "move on" by (in your own words) "zombie Christian" (in a fucking church, no less!), how can there not be any doubt that they were (hyuk) lost there until they moved on to the afterlife (it may not be pearly gates, but it was the afterlife)?
Yes, we attach labels like "purgatory" to such a realm, but that is the commonly known and accepted term for such a place. I can't believe you have the audacity to complain about that. You can call Earth whatever you want, won't stop the rest of us from calling it Earth.
