Just finished the finale...

Glad I didn't watch this show from the beginning or I'd be pissed right now.

A lot of us aren't pissed because we dropped it initially during season 3 during that 3-4 month break or whatever and stopped giving a shit. Then we picked it back up cuz it was the cool thang to do.

No.

Christian Shepard told him that some died before him and some after. They show Jack dying, and he sees the plane taking off. Also Hurley lived on with Ben on the island after Jack died.

Ben, Alex and Rousseau still didn't have visions of their Island shenanigans, right?
So it's probably not the right time to move on yet.

Ben does.

I think it was a perfect bookend, but it had no emotional weight and had the unfortunate circumstance of running parallel to the ridiculous "afterlife" scene. Why should I care that Jack sacrificed himself, when I don't know what it was for and further riddles the mythos with inconsistencies (shouldn't he have turned into the smoke monster?).

Because, y'know, maybe if the writers had created a sense of urgency and stressed the importance of Jack's sacrifice, instead of vague and ambiguous bullshit, it would pull at my heart strings. Bush league stuff, but oh well. I wonder if the bullpen stopped caring by this point.

So, Lost is finished. I need a new fix.

How is Supernatural? Just downloaded the first season. Or are there better shows out there? I want a show with crazy things in it. So no The Wire or Sopranos, they sound VERY shitty. And no comedies.

Oh, and I'm also following Spartacus. But it'll take some time before the prequel hits..

Dawson's Creek was filmed right here in Wilmington.  Josh Jackson was known around town as a legitimately nice fellow.  He saved a girl from drowning at one of the beaches.  So you have a real life hero to look up to in Fringe, as opposed to Lost's Dr. Daddy Complex.

Dollhouse has a definite ending, right?

Pretty much. If you didn't truly care for the characters, there was no emotional weight to that episode. People in the GAF thread are laughing at me, saying the Fake Locke plot was "resolved." Uh, we still don't know why he wanted to leave, what would happen if he left, what was stopping him, etc. Bububu "Jacob's rules!" Yea, ok  :lol

The most emotional scenes for me were when Locke X had his flashback, and Hurley not wanting Jack to sacrifice himself. With the Locke scene, it hit me just how bad I missed the "real" Locke. And with Hurley it was just a great moment, and he actually pulled off some good acting imo (compared to me wanting to laugh at him trying to cry after Jin and Sun died).

I happen to like the characters, and even while bracing for a religion-tinged disappointment, seeing the cast together in the church was great.

we do know why he wants to leave tho. when he found out his mother was lying the entire tile about the island being all that there is he wanted to go out and see for himself.
now in regard to what was stopping him. there is no answer. and if there is, did you really wanna see them attempt to answer it?

I don't get it either, Maurice.

Someone said that all we needed to know was that the Man in Black wanted to leave the island and that he was "evil", and that should be good enough for the audience.

Why?

I mean, the guy never seemed all that evil. He never once hinted at trying to take over or destroy the world. He didn't even threaten to kill people's loved ones off the island. All he wanted to do was leave, and he killed anyone in his way. If you were not opposing him, he didn't even care about you! He even warned people at the Temple, and let everyone live who didn't stay back. There are Wall Street traders more malevolent than this guy.

... so why should I care that this guy leaves the island? Why should Jack's death matter to me if I don't really understand what it is was for?

So stupid.

It doesn't help much that Jacob is not shown to be much more benevolent. Throughout the series he withholds answers, messes with people's lives, and does nothing as countless people die for a cause that they know absolutely nothing about.

Sam's mother tells him there's nothing beyond the sea, but after a ship finds its way to the island he realizes she's been lying. Naturally Sam wants to meet other people and travel the world. Not one time was it even hinted that Sam had some master plan to destroy the world. I guess you could say Jacob and his mother were concerned Sam might bring more people to the island, but even that makes little sense considering the amount of people Jacob brought. It makes no sense.

All in all it seems like Sam was just a curious guy who wanted to escape his oppressive family. Poor Sam  :'(

BTW, I love Fringe, but if one want's to get into a pissing match about how tight it supposedly is compared to Lost (while only juggling three, three! characters) you'll drown in egg and tears on your face.

It was always throwing shit at the wall. It's just alot of that shit they decided that it wasn't important enough to through in didactic scenes where it's explictly explained (even to the folks in the backseat). That might be a dealbreaker to some but oh well.

It doesn't get points, but it also doesn't get docked points when you create your own set of Q's when watching it and find out that it wasn't dedicating it's plot to providing your specific answer key.

Lost was a good show. Well written/acted, great production values, hybrid show (sci fi, fantasy, religion, etc). Surely we can agree it had some good seasons (great imo, like S1 and S4)

I wanted to reply to the ridiculous Fringe comment (how dare they have three well-written characters versus an ensemble cast of BORING), but Juice and Cohen did the Lord's work for me.

Maybe I will enjoy the finale once I let the fan community fill in all the blanks for the writers. Could Lost be the first franchise made better by fan fiction?

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2010/05/lost-exclusive-abc-sets-the-record-straight-about-the-series-finales-plane-crash-images.html
Quote
You know those Oceanic 815 plane crash images that ran after Jack's (Matthew Fox) eye closed and the "Lost" logo appeared on our TV screens? Some "Lost" fans and TV critics have wondered if they were a last Easter egg from the producers, a clue meant to lead us to conclude that no one survived Oceanic 815's crash landing — and therefore everything we've seen over the last six years never really happened.

Well, ABC wants to clear the air: Those photographs were not part of the "Lost" story at all. The network added them to soften the transition from the moving ending of the series to the 11 p.m. news and never considered that it would confuse viewers about the actual ending of the show.

"The images shown during the end credits of the 'Lost' finale, which included shots of Oceanic 815 on a deserted beach, were not part of the final story but were a visual aid to allow the viewer to decompress before heading into the news," an ABC spokesperson wrote in an e-mail Tuesday.

That means, Losties, that we were not supposed to think that Christian Shepherd (John Terry) is a liar. What Christian told his son, when they were reunited at the church, should serve as guidance for our interpretation of the series' ending.

So let's review: Christian told Jack that he was dead and everyone else in the church was too — some had died before Jack, as we already knew, and some died long after. The sideways flashes then were a step in everyone's after-lives, a way to reconnect before moving on permanently.  While there still may be unanswered questions related to that religious and spiritual conclusion to the "Lost" story, the photographs were really just a nostalgic, transitional touch added by ABC executives — and not executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.

Love or hate it, that's the final answer.

Well the writers left the fan fiction community with lots of material:
Origins of the Island
Walt's powers
Dogen and the Temple
Hurley and Ben's tenure as protectors of the Island
The future of those who escaped
etc.

Don't laugh. People were dumb enough to think that meant they all died in the crash.

Well the writers left the fan fiction community with lots of material:
Origins of the Island
Hurley and Ben's tenure as protectors of the Island
I could see them milking the series with a spin-off about either of these after seeing how shitty all of ABC's new shows are and considering how desperate they are to find a replacement for Lost

how dare they have three well-written characters versus an ensemble cast of BORING

In what way are Fringe's main three so well-written? Please show your work.

Hint - Walter being now BEFUDDLED OLD COOT while once he was MORALLY BLIND SCIENTIST is not a character arc.

Can I also get a :palinlol for Willco somehow thinking the WTC reveal was some amazing reveal. Worst possible cool twist ever.
