I have always liked Nvidia's graphics cards thanks to good drivers and stability. Right now I have a 8800gt, and I am thinking about upgrading to the GTX line, but I heard that the DX11 enabled cards are just around the corner. So what should I do? I am looking forward to play some upcoming PC games in 1080p, but also good having it for emulation.

Wait for the 5850s to become plentiful.  They are rare right now, but iirc you are from Sweden so the situation might be different for you.

I recently (3 months ago) upgraded from an 8800gt to a GTX 275, and I'd say what archie said.  ATI is pretty much where it's at now.  Nvidia doesn't even have a DX11 card now, and unlike DX10, DX11 seems worthwhile.

And just for the sake of things, running the same games after installing the GTX 275 had some double or more in quality/frame rate.  It's a big boost in power, but if I held out a bit more, I would have upgraded to one of the ATI cards.

NVIDIA's DX11 cards are supposed to be coming out next spring, iirc.  If you are incredibly patient, you might want to hold out and compare the NVIDIA cards to the ATI ones.  Otherwise, the 5850 is the best price/performance card on the market right now.

I got a 5770 on the weekend since there's no 5850 or 5870s anywhere in Australia, some were quoting Jan/Feb for restocks. If you can get a 5850 do it, they're the perfect spot of price vs performance.

Interesting story - there's only 20 (yes TWENTY) 5970s coming into the country this year, in batches of 5.

I know everyone is raving about the ATI cards and all, but I am going to continue to support nividia, especially when it is rumored that they're in trouble. And yes, it seems that I am better off waiting for their DX11 line of cards since I use Windows 7 which is DX11 enabled already.

I'm going to upgrade when Crysis 2 comes out.  Will get a new card + Windows 7.

With my 9800GTX I can't really justify upgrading since I get 60fps with every game maxed outside of Crysis which is still 30ish maxed.
