I played a lot of Warcraft 2 back in the day. A good buddy and I used to play against each over our state of the art 56k modems. :rock

WarCraft 2 turned me into a PC gamer. World of WarCraft turned me into a console gamer.

Warcraft 2 is the only RTS I've ever enjoyed. I wasn't any good at it, but it was fun, unlike every other RTS I've tried. I've never played World of Warcraft. I refuse to pay a monthly fee to play a game.

It was pretty amazing. I remember catching a lot of flack back in the day for saying that I found it more enjoyable than WarCraft 3.

StarCraft rocked them both, though. That is my second favorite Blizzard game of all-time.

I miss the days when Blizzard used to make games.

The guys in the dorms tried converting me to Starcraft, but it just didn't click with me. Besides, I was having more fun with Counterstrike.

I could never get into Warcraft 1 all that much, but I loved Warcraft 2.

And, as has already been stated, Starcraft blew them both away.

I haven't played Counterstrike since 2002, I'm sure it's just as fun as it was back in college.

Yeah, WC2 is the only RTS I ever beat.  I played it all the time and made tons of maps for it to play against my friends and the cpu.  Liked Starcraft, but I was getting out of RTS by then so didn't play it a ton.  Enjoyed the Zerg Rush.

Looking at those pics I guess I never played WC1 and started with WC2.  Those pics look like Gauntlet!

I don't think I ever played the first Warcraft. Never played the third one, either.

I've played all three, all pretty much right when they came out (lol he's old). I remember hooking up two comps on a LAN back in high school and having my friend curse at me in WC2 for invisible double-blizzarding (with mages) of his rally point or peons. We all had really bad APM at the time so he could never react and always lost tons of units to that.

Later on in life we played Starcraft and oh god he did not like psi-storm/reaver drops. Said it was the same shit (and it was!)

Fun games. WC3 is still extremely playable, while the stock multiplayer in it was always a bit degenerate, the single-player mission design is still probably the best in an RTS to date. It's also not very hard and is very, very enjoyable for players of modest caliber.

I used to play the hell out of WC and WC2 back in the day.  The original Warcraft was an amazing game at the time, I remember that my cousin and I would use modem play to face each other, shit was awesome.  Heh, the best was how the cheat codes could be used in multiplayer, but would automatically affect both sides.

I remember playing WC2 for the first time and being absolutely amazed at how much better it was.  Full CG campaign cinematics, all of the units had unique voices, an easy to use level editor, great animation, it was one hell of a sequel.

You should check out the Spellforce series then. You can get both main games and the three expansions for about $15.

WCII was the first PC game to totally dominate my gaming life. I loved everything about it.

I remember trying to play on my 56k AOL connection and constantly getting DCd  :lol

I liked WCIII when it came out but ultimately I had more fun with II, even though it wasn't deep for an RTS

I played the original Warcraft which is one of the reasons I didn't pick up Warcraft II immediately (the game didn't quite work, they improved the interface/controls a lot with Warcraft II).

I might have put a couple of days into WC2 but I didn't get too into RTS games because of it.  I probably spent 100 times as many hours playing starcraft though and that's probably because I was a full 10 years old at the time.  Knowing fractions probably makes you a better RTS gamer.

Too bad Games Workshop didn't take Blizzard up on their offer of licensing Warhammer Fantasy Battle. Can you imagine where that property would be now?

I played so much WC2 I used to hear phantom voices - "They're destroying our city!" as I was trying to go to sleep.  My friend Steve played so much he told me that one morning, when his alarm went off, he actually moved his hand across the bed like he was moving a mouse and tried to click the snooze button :lol

I used to have similar experiences in between sleep and wake after particularly rigorous sessions of WoW, except that it was more like I was logging into the game from my mind. I really don't know how to describe it without sounding like a cracked out distinguished mentally-challenged fellow

I still hear phantom game sounds sometimes.  I played so much Fallout 3 I'd hear that "wandering the wastes" background music at inside my mind at random moments.

What were people's reactions to WC1 when it first came out

I'm trying to think of another series where the sequel is actually the real defining installment, but I'm coming up blank.
