Hopefully Espgaluda 2 will be region free too. Or at least they should start bringing them over to the west (Death Smiles is currently in the process of being localized apparently). I don't see Cave stopping any time soon though. I'm personally hoping for a Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu port next so I can finally play that.

5pb still has Ketsui AFAIK and apparently the port is in bad shape and might not be coming out  :(

If worst comes to worst I'll wind up blowing $300 for a Japanese 360 so I can pick up all the shooters I missed so far. Mushi Futari being region free made me put off my J360 purchase until at least next year...

Is MAME hard to set up and find games for? I don't have much patience for emulators. They should all be as simple as the SNES and GBA ones.

It's just as easy.

Get MAME.  Throw .rar of game into /rom dir.  Click MAME.exe.  BAM YOU ARE PLAYING.

Daifukkatsu is all but confirmed at this point, they'll likely do it after Espgaluda 2 is done.  They also confirmed Deathsmiles 2 last year, although that's nothing to be excited for.

Muchi Muchi pork was confirmed for an XBLA version, no idea when that'll show up tho.

Pink Sweets was a huge bomb in the arcades so I'd be kind of surprised if that showed up.  It's an interesting game though, so I hope it gets some sort of home port eventually.  I play it every once in awhile but it's really tough to score well in it if you don't spend a lot of time practicing.

I suck at MAME.  I always have to use some shitty frontend.  Is there a way where MAME can explained for distinguished mentally-challenged fellows like myself without using a frontend of some kind.  I dun get command lines or if MAME even uses command lines these days.

OMG I hope to GOD that ESPGaluda II is region free. And where did you hear that Deathsmiles US release news? That would be great, now if we could get Mamotte-kun over here that would be fucking awesome.

Fairly old article from Kotaku: http://kotaku.com/5370354/cave-wants-to-bring-its-manic-shooters-global

Quote
"Right now, we're working on a few titles for localization," Asada said. Again, take caution. "This is currently all in talks. With regards to Death Smiles, we can say that it's currently in progress and hopefully soon we'll be able to give overseas users news about its release."

The possibility of Cave games on Steam is also mentioned, but I'm not sure if that's straight from Asada or speculation from Kotaku...

What?

http://mamedev.org/release.html

Grab the binary package.  Install.  Drop roms into /rom dir.  Click mame.exe.  Should take you to a window that lists your games and has a "configure keys" option.  Configure keys, press enter on game.  Play.

It's pretty straightforward.  It's not like PS/PS2 emulators where you need bios' and stuff.

So Cave put up the Black Label DLC on the US marketplace (1200 points): http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/0ccf0002-0000-4000-8000-0000435a07d7

250 extra achievement points, no idea what they are.

These are the additions/changes for Black Label from the arcade version:

Quote from: Wikipedia
Black Label

It is a limited (150 copies) release of the game, with the following changes:

    * Stages 3 and 5 have a darker color palette.
    * No shot type selection. The resulting shot type is a mixture of Normal and Abnormal modes from previous games, and is much more powerful than in other versions.
    * Scoring system changes. The score system for close range attacks is changed. Multipliers in Maniac and God mode now carry over between stages. Gold gems are far more abundant in all modes, allowing for much larger scores.
    * God (極弩) mode. Replacing the Ultra mode, it uses a slightly modified Maniac mode score system, and preserves most of the bullet density of the replaced mode, but with new enemy arrangements and barrages. It has much more slowdown compared to Ultra mode and it is also much easier compared to Ultra mode, in fact most players consider Ver 1.0(1)'s Maniac mode to be harder than God mode.
    * A new True Last Boss, Spiritual Larsa. She can only be reached by completing God mode without dying. She is easier than Ultra mode's True Last Boss.

More info: http://www.cave-stg.com/forum/index.php?topic=61.0

Just bought it myself. Two more weeks until I can play it. :spin

The DLC voucher unlocks version 1.01

Quote
1.01

Debuted in 2006 Cave festival. It includes game system in 1.5, but uses barrages from 1.0.

Yes.  Cave games have lots of slowdown in the arcade.  The home ports match that.

Yeah, I don't have my futari yet but going by Death Smiles X360 mode should just have a different graphical look.  The slowdown is part of the gameplay so they wouldn't change that.  It would mess people up who are used to slowdown at certain parts.

Yeah, the slowdown is emulated to give an accurate representation of the arcade version.  Some ports (like DOJ for the 360) give you the option to turn off the slowdown, but it usually makes the game more difficult.

Of course, then you have games like Otomedius, where there wasn't any slowdown in the arcade but they added it for the 360 mode in order to make fun of the shooters of old.

The Black Label expansion is currently messed up tho, has a lot of stuttering which shouldn't exist and will likely be fixed with a patch (Deathsmiles had some minor issues pre-patch as well).  It's still worth picking up since BL really changes the mechanics of the game.

Hey MCD, what's in the LE?  My order just get rammed up the behind by P-A, so I'm gonna end up buying it off Ebay at jacked up prices to at least get the DLC card.  $90something for standard, $150 for LE.  Wondering if I should pay the extra and go for the LE.

Blazblue LE like package + OST + DLC voucher for 1.01 (108kb unlock key).

I only went with the LE because a friend of mine said that his friend is coming back from japan and can buy it from there at the original price so i said why not.

Ah.  Yeah I don't really want to pay an extra $50+ for an ost.  I'll just pay $80+shipping for the standard with dlc card.

There was also a "super" LE which included a couple of faceplates and a telephone card that was only on sale at Cave's website.  I ordered a bunch of them and sold the extras, made some pretty nice $$$ in the process!
