Yeah, being proud of racism is way better than realizing it is something to be ashamed of.
Well that's not really what I meant. I'm not saying them banning the spires is good, or that the prejudice is good and is something that people shouldn't be ashamed of... but that the vote at least brings the bullshit out from the shadows and into the open where it can be addressed--which is good.
That's all.
You'd think there would be some sort of something in place to prevent such a vote, but apparently not.
The only thing is, bringing it out like this moves people backwards. No one in the US is so dumb to think that racism doesn't exist. But bringing it out in this kind of fashion does nothing. It's a fight that's already been fought. There's no clear cut answer on educating and addressing racial issues, but this is definitely not the way. If anything, this just raises tensions and emotions which usually makes the average person dumber.
And yeah, common decency tells us that this shouldn't have ever gotten this far. But this is how it works. It sucks, but so does Prop 8 in California. When it comes to democracy, you gotta take the good with the bad. Even if it means living with the idiotic choices of your fellow citizens.
