I wouldn't bother looking for excuses to turn on your Wii - you'll just force yourself to buy something and regret it soon after. I've done it before.

Just leave the Wii off as nature intended.

Lost Winds, World of Goo, Dr. Mario, the new Excitebike

I have had stupid, drunken fun with Pads or Pad Toss, whatever it's called (Bags?)... but I can't recommend it unless you have stupid, drunken friends to play it with.

Contra Rebirth is ok but a bit bland by Contra standards. The soon to be released Castlevania Adventure is supposed to be pretty decent as well.

Yeah, I came here to mention this. FF4 The After Years isn't bad if you can stomach a ridiculously high encounter rate.

Even Commodore 64 games on the UK store weren't enough for me.

This year, it was just Contra and Castlevania ReBirth for me.  Don't care about anything else.  For older stuff, Tetris Party is okay.

How was Gradius Rebirth?  Did you get to play that, Lyte?

Castlevania Rebirth is cool.  Lost Wings is fun but not worth the money (if it's ever $2.50 or $5, go for it).  All the bit trip games are the same, but the first pong one is fun.  Orbident is awesome if you don't have the GBA game; they kinda ruin the aesthetic with the Wii version.  MM9 is on other systems.  World of Goo (not a fan of this game, btw) is on PC and way cheaper.

Also, buying downloadable games on the Wii is a bit of a risky move since they're tied to your console, not an account.

I didn't; people said it had some game play problems so I never got it.  But they updated something on it recently; maybe it's fixed now?  I would like to get it at some point.
