New York (CNN) -- Former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw and his wife were involved Friday in a three-vehicle accident in which one person died, his publicist said.

Brokaw and his wife, Meredith, were not injured.

... between this and Amanda Knox, Tiger Woods is off the media shit list.

Tragedy today, as former President Gerald Ford was eaten by wolves and I killed a woman with my car.

Updated details:

The couple was driving in the far left lane when "they noticed a spool of cable bouncing along the far right lane," the statement said. A green SUV drove up quickly in an attempt to avoid the cable.

The driver of the SUV lost control of her vehicle and slid into the middle lane, forcing a mail truck into the lane the Brokaws' vehicle was in, the statement said.

The mail truck hit a median and the Brokaws' vehicle slid into it, it said.

The driver of the SUV was thrown from her vehicle and killed, the statement said.

"Tom and Meredith are greatly saddened by this loss of life," it said.

New York police confirmed one person was killed in an accident on the expressway involving an SUV, a postal truck and a possible third vehicle. No other details were released.

... I guess that's why you always wear a seatbelt.
