I played Alone in the Dark, got pretty far actually.

Looked horrible, had tons of gameplay and design problems, but it was kinda fun still. Had some really nice ideas, but it always felt like a B level game, with a B level budget trying to do what A level games do with A level budgets.

A nice comparison would be Advent Rising.

I'm probably going to buy it because I love survival horror games and there's literally NOTHING THE FUCK ELSE coming out that month.

Doesn't anyone think the game's story sounds like a Stephen King novel? Seriously. "I'm a writer and the world's fucked up around me all of a sudden." That's pretty much every Stephen King novel ever penned.

nothing else coming out? what? my reason for passing on it at release is because too much is coming out.

a week before:
Lost Planet 2
Skate 3
3D Dot Game Heroes

the week of:
Alan Wake
Red Dead Redemption
Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands
Split Second
Trauma Team

week after that:
Blur
Modnation Racers
Mario Galaxy 2
etc.

I'm only picking up Galaxy 2, Red Dead Redemption, and probably 3D Dot Game Heroes.  Most of those games there I want to at least play (except maybe Skate 3 and Modnation) but they need to be put off.  I'll probably get around to Alan Wake in the summer even thought I'm liking it the more I see of it.  But June is also pretty stacked.  space this shit out.

Now, April is a dead month.  Only Splinter Cell Conviction but I'm passing on that.  If only RDR wasn't delayed.

That's why it called GameFly bitches!

I can never do GameFly. I don't play that many games to make it worth it, I don't like waiting for new releases to be returned to rent them, etc.

I usually know what I want and feel confident in my purchase, but both Alan Wake and Red Dead have several red flags. I will probably pick up Wake, simply because I tend to like linear, story-driven games way more than sandbox games... and Rockstar games depreciate in value pretty quick for some reason. It'll probably be easier to pick it up on the cheap sometime later this year.

Gamefly doesn't help the whole time thing  :'(

May is ridiculous, especially that entire week.  There isn't enough time or money to play all the games and as good as it looks, Alan Wake is the game I'll hold off on.  Red Dead Redemption seems like a game I've wanted for a long time and the only reason I can think off to hold off is that there is an actual announced PC version, which would help since the game still looks jank in the latest videos.

Lost Planet 2 - wasn't crazy about the first game
Skate 3 - eh, never pulled my interest really
3d Dot Game Heroes - Okay, but I will probably wait to check that out or buy it used or something

the week of
Alan Wake - bought
Red Dead Redemption - eh, the first game was okay. Will wait to see if it is any good or if Rockstar is just using it as a GTA V gameplay mechanics demo like most of their non GTA games
Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands - was never that interested in the Prince of Persia games
Split Second and Trauma Team - meh. Trauma Team is more interesting, but I really don't play my Wii and it takes a lot to motivate me to buy a game. Rentals

Afterwards
Blur - is a rental at best
ModNation Racers - ditto
Mario Galaxy 2 - okay, you got me there again. Literally had no fucking idea this was coming out this soon for some reason. Purchase confirmed of course

The best looking console games have been Ps3 games so far. And they're all in 720p.
Uncharted 2, God Of War 3, Killzone 2, FFXIII...all in 720p. WipeoutHD is even 1080p/60fps. The best looking racer of this gen.

Bu bu extra 10mb edram :lol

I don't really care for fps or resolution, though. As long as the game looks great.

Sony's own games tend to be 720p, though, and quite a few of them look really fucking good. 360 exclusives seem to generally run in some significantly-less-than-HD resolution. Not that I ever really notice this shit, but it's worth the lulz.

Keep in mind that the 360 does a much better job of scaling than the PS3.  It's both a blessing and a curse, much like the 360's ease of programmability.  Most devs just aren't going to do the work for that extra 10% polish.

So it's basically like your typical Xbox 360 exclusive except that it's running at a proper HD resolution, then!  :drake

Seriously, all console graphics look almost like PS2 games to me nowadays.  I just look past them to get to the game.  It's hard to go back to console graphics with current PC hardware letting me play almost everything with 60fps, max settings, crazy AA levels and resolutions greater than 1080P.  I'm more than ready to move on to the next gen of consoles.

Yeah, but no one uses it. My little lappy runs circles around any of the consoles, but other than resolution, framerate and texture/edge filtering, the games aren't all that hot. I got more oohs and aahs out of Uncharted 2 than any of the super-res'd, hyperclean PC games I've played recently. There is the odd Crysis, but those games are few and far between.

Do you understand what are you saying now?

Some(very weak) PC can run quake 3 at 1080p and acording to you

graphically
quake 3>>>uncharted 2...easily

A little example Bioshock 2 PS3 runs at pixel counting "720p",but on screen effects run at 360p-upscaled to 720p of course
But in the case of Bioshock 2 those effect are always on,sometimes nothing else is on screen except them.
So someone could easily claim that Bioshock 2 PS3 is a 360p game.

Killzone 2 is very similar.

Why is this pixel counting stuff so popular(especially among fanboys)?Simple, very easy to detect, hard number to hang on
But in the end it's no more important than shadow map res,etc etc...some games even change it on fly

There's more than enough games to play on the PC even if you don't care about the hardcore, difficult stuff that Frag likes.  Just in the last year, there's been SF4, RE5,AC2,  Bioshock 2, Mass Effect 2, Just Cause 2, MW2, etc.   That's over 50% of the biggest console titles.

I mean, why the hell would I want to play a game on a console if I don't have to, if I could get the game looking like this:

Yet they don't care when a game on their system of choice is running at a lower than advertised resolution, i.e. WipeoutHD.

The polygon visuals seem to be but the lighting/post-processing are at multiple different resolutions, similar to Killzone 2.  It seems like this approach actually works really well in low contrast games.

In the old gameplay videos, the image quality was the last thing I'd complain about the graphics since there seems to be practically no jaggies because of the 4X aa.

A 540p game cannot be the graphics king on a HD platform because from a technical perspective a resolution of 540p is a complete joke.

Killzone 2 is rendered at 720p. MGS4 is not, GTA4(Ps3 version) is not, Alan Wake is not, Splinter Cell: Conviction is not, all Halo games (including Reach and excluding the spinoff) are not, etc etc.

GeOW3 will more than likely be rendered at a resolution of 720p, and it will more than likely be the best looking game on 360.

Live in denial or learn to accept the facts.

If you die tomorrow in some horrible accident, how will you look back at this afternoon?

If I died tomorrow I wouldn't be able to look back at shit.

I would be dead.

For your sake, I hope that's true.

Cute.
